You know, looking at this thread again it strikes me that all this “…” and “AAA” stuff is just an absolute sham. The fact that YP even allows this to go on makes me think that they have no scruples at all so long as you sign up to the advertising. I also have found YP to have gotten very pushy with their marketing of late and that only serves to heighten my distaste for them as well as the suspicion that they’ll do anything to get you to sign on.

Hacks me off that sort of thing does.

    Re: Yellow Pages Ad

I have to admit I don’t advertise at all, mainly because the vast majority of the work we do is contract or installations and, TBH, I can do without the hassles of the “free estimate” brigade calling me up and telling me they’ll get back to us when they find out that we do charge them. We used to have a big ad in the Glasgow YP but found it produced more cr@p calls than anything else but a few genuine ones as well but that could well be down to the wording of it.

For sales as well I found YP pretty much a bust and Thomson Local I found to be a waste of money totally. The local rags produced some results and worked out substantially cheaper than YP or TL over the course of a year, especially if you did a deal with the publisher for it. But, like many things, it’s horses for courses and what worked or didn’t for one person may do either for another, it’s a funny thing advertising.

    What the hell’s a barby unit ?

    LOL, you heathen! 😉

It’s an indoor barbeque unit that is domestically available as a domino hob, electric element in it and “lava rock” below that to spread the heat and give the barbeque effect. The lava rock has to be replaced on a fairly regular basis, dependant on use, so I’m surprised you don’t know what it is. They seem to work quite well with the caveat that they are smoky as you’re charcoaling food so good extraction is needed above for sure, but often there is optional worktop extractors as well to pull the excess smoke away.

Most upmarket manufacturers supply these and even Candy had one, dunno if they still do them though.

Yeah, 300mm wide, but if you use a barby unit then generally you have fit a little extractor between the other hob (600 or 300mm) to pull the smoke away, on the old Gaggenau’s, when they were Gaggenau and not a division of Bosch, you needed two of them which pads it out nicely. You still have to account for the filler/joining strips anyway which is the point.

It’s easy enough to get a 600, 700 and 900mm hob but I’ve not seen an 800mm one, which is ideally what you’re looking for.

Can you tell I’ve had this problem before? 😉

I was informed of that as well and asked to post accordingly, noteably not by someone within NESN as it stands now. That makes me a bit suspicous, but then I’m like that anyway.

If the network is not currently viable then how can it be a financially sound organisation? The events of late beg a lot of questions, I’m waiting on some answers before I say too much on it.

You must also remember that there is still a boardroom battle going on and those can get very messy indeed. 😕

Oh and here was I thinking they’d bought Asko in an attempt to learn just how appliances were supposed to be built. 😉 😆 😈

    Penguin,

Only option for replacement is to “roll your own” using domino hobs from the likes of Smeg or De Detriech really, but even that will require some, ahem, jigsaw modification to the worktop, start chopping to get a 900mm hob in there. 😉

The only other way is some kind of filler piece methinks.

I thought the new website was nice, clean and proffesional looking TBH with the added bonus of no cheesy music. 😉

As you say Alex, it does the job and projects an image that you want for your company, is there really any need to go further?

To be quite honest I actually believe that there is too much emphasis placed on web otimisation Andy, especially in the terms of a small business “here we are” website. In the end it all comes down to content as Google will tell you.

    Penguin,

I think you’d be better off sticking with the older manual system as the cost to impliment the new one may defeat you. 😉

Quite right IMO. Many customers don’t seem to understand the “domestic” bit of domestic appliance, that means they were not designed for extended use in pubs, clubs, hairdressers, retirement homes etc. etc. and it is unfair to expect the appliance to cope in such environments. Sadly a lot of retailers don’t seem to understand that either. 😕

As for Servis, well GBDAR did tell me to repair a washer in a pub even though I did query it at the time.

    Yep, went on last night.

The reason for the different regions is that it marrows down where a visitor should actually go to find relevant information. Otherwise it would just get confusing IMO.

We’ll see in time I guess if it’s worhtwhile.

There are good reasons for website optimisation if you sell or are lookin to garner a massive audience, usually to either sell (as mentioned) or to gain income through advertising. Other then that, for us at least, I think it merely serves as a glorified brochure describing what you do in more detail.

And like a bad episode of Buffy, let’s ressurect this thread…

The shop module has been in place, both Dave and I have been very distracted of late with other things but the finger is out now!

I want this launched and soon. I’m not buggering about anymore with it, I want it done.

To that end, I need any ex stock that the subscribers have with a photo and a description etc so I can get it up on the site for you with as much information as you can give me. I’ll then get the bits and bobs on the shop for sale.

    Any questions please ask.
