KeymasterRe: Disclosing Confidential Information
No deal, go away is the toned down version of what I’d say Martin. 😉
It has been alleged and, I fully believe what I’m being told, that Whirlpool are employing this tactic on it’s service partners. If this information is correct as I have been told it is a shocking invasion of those businesses privacy, with the principals salaries having to be revealed.
IMO it is no more than spying on your business to see how much or how little they can get away with paying you, I regard it as utterly disgusting to be perfectly frank. What next, do they want to see your personal bank statements as well? Look into what car you own and how much you pay for? Want to know how much your home is worth and how much equity is in it?
I think not and the only advice I would offer anyone is to tell them to get stuffed politely and refuse to give over the information as it’s absolutely none of their business in any way.
If LG do this as well they can stuff it, I would not submit that information.

Keymastersim,
This is often the case as we generally don’t go down to component level on boards as there is no need. Probably you will be stuck with buying a new board from Indesit. 😕

KeymasterSoftware is a really hard thing to get right TBH as it tries to be all things to all people and like operating some systems, some are loved by some whilst others hated. I’ve long since given up trying to explain what makes a product right or wrong, call it the “X Factor” or whatever it’s just that some are right and some are wrong.
For call logging it has to be fast, flow well and intuative to use, correcting the operator if major blunders have been made. I have the perfect system, th eproblem is it’s in my head and not being a code monkey I can’t get it written without spending obsene amounts of cash. 🙁
However, I am still looking for the solution that will do or that can be worked with to mold it into what is required for the independent repairers.

KeymasterI agree this would definately be the preffered route for everyone I feel as well and probably be a better way to go about things for LGH as well.
A couple of little points though…
What if it’s MFI they want out the loop?! 😯
LGH have been notorious for not paying up with stupid reasons given for rejections.
The other thing is that they will not accept faxed or emails for estimates which is bloody strange, but it’s hard to keep records of phone calls.
Just based on past experience etc.

KeymasterFor warranty calls, yes I do as the rate is already discounted to the client anyway so, IMO, they can hardly expect a further discount.
If I was charging what I charge to the customer direct I may feel differently but it’s not, so I don’t. 😉

KeymasterThanks Alex, at least we know what’s going on now.

KeymasterRe: 2nd appliance rate
Martin wrote:(e.g. Suppose you call to replace the Motor Brushes on a W/M and the customer asked you to fix the broken Door Handle on her dryer whilst your there. Surely you wouldn’t charge another £20 or would you?)
Simply, yes.
But then if it’s a “look see” type thing we don’t charge at all most times, I leave it to the discretion of the engineer for that generally as they have a better idea of a fair price for what’s been done.

KeymasterWe play that one by ear to an extent as it depends on the appliance, if it’s a two minute job, travelling etc, etc.
Generally though we will charge a nominal fee for it, usually a 1/2 call.

Which is why I always say that any system should be able to be picked up by anyone within 5 minutes for basic use, if not the software designer wasted his time. I have told many a development company that over the years. 😉

KeymasterBig brother is watching and if it’s not him it’s me or Whirlpool! 😉 😆
TBH I was gonna mention it anyway due to a conversation I had on Friday afternoon, but with all that was going on it slipped my mind. Which I know is not unusual before you start on me. 😉

KeymasterRe: Site News & Updates
Basic site statistics are now available off the main navigation menu. You can also see them by clicking on the links (numbers) in the Site Info panel to the right as well.
This does not give detailed information but does allow you to see the the trends of people using the site as well as some other nifty little nuggets of information.
This can only be seen by registered users and not any anonymous visitors to the site.

KeymasterWere it involves Lotus or Lotus Notes especially I’d rather boil my head in oil and be flayed alive thank you very much. It must be the most hateful software ever created by man, not that I’m in any way biased. 😉
For those that can unravel the mysteries of it it seems fine, for the rest of us mortals, steer clear. 😆
But hey, if it works for you…

KeymasterThat figure for BG Service rings true with what I’ve heard as well but along with a rider that was, “that’s what the cost of delivering in home service is with all the trimmings”.
GBDAR will most likely offer agents less than half that figure, so you have to ask what they expect in terms of service levels?
I was told about Haier and warned off it a while ago, apparently they suffer from the same affliction as the Korean’s with regard to accountancy. Whether there’s any truth to that or not I really don’t know as I’ve not had any dealings with them and heard little on the subject.
BTW Alex, I laughed like hell at the dishwasher comments. 😉

KeymasterLOL,m my two pet hates are Macs and PDA’s and don’t get me started on a rant about either. 😉
But yes, broadband has almsot landed and I should be on broadband both at home and work by the end of the month, 24th is the date for installation that I have for the business. Saving me about £100 a month!!!
