KeymasterRe: The Second Meeting
Rudolph_Hucker wrote:In answer to Richards criticism regards pseudonyms, I admit I’m an offender, but if I came clean I would not be able to voice an opinion on contentious issues. Perhaps the day will come when we will be able to work with an even closer relationship, then we can voice our thoughts without the fear of legal retribution. Regretfully as long as there are Work Providers out there who gain pleasure in litigation, then some of us have to remain underground. I’m am fully aware that we could be taken more seriously had we been allowed free speach.
This is something that I tried to get to at the meeting but most likely I lost the plot there so it’s easier to do it this was anyway.
This was the initial reason for the whole privacy thing over who’s who, however we’ve moved on a bit from that. In recent months many a manufacturer, insurer, work provider or employee thereof have subb’d up to UKW and I do not, will not and never shall unless it is desired tell anyone who they are either. Privacy cuts both ways. π
A lot of these people wish to view the forums, know what’s going on in there and the trade in general yet not to comment. Fair enough, but even if you do agree with a post or do have a counter point/argument to make then please do so. We all learn by that and probably could help each other a lot better with more input from “the other side of the fence” as it were.
I know that there have been some adverse comments, in particular regarding some WP’s and a couple of manufacturers, but some of those have adressed the problems, worked with the agents and at least made the attempt to put it right. The point is, they’re listening and trying to work with us.
But I’m not going to force anyone to speak up nor am I going to tell anyone who an account belongs to, if the user chooses to reveal themselves then that’s their call, not mine. But since we’ve already had one instance of a WP more than rattling the sabres and quoting some information posted on UKW I can fully understand and appreciate the need to remain anonymous in a way.

KeymasterYes that is 100{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} correct and what was agreed at the meeting as the initial step in being able to provide member services and to get the ball rolling as it were for a very minimal amount.
I have spoken with the bank this afternoon and the whole thing should be online and good to go in the next day or so. Standing order forms will be available for download from the site in the next few days once I get them through and sorted out in a format that will be acceptable to the bank.

KeymasterThe minutes, written by me, are now available in the downloads section as a Word document and I’ll transfer and upload a PDF version tomorrow
Please bear in mind that I have never taken or written meeting minutes in my puff so if they’re rough then they’re rough okay? π

KeymasterOkay yesterday I opened an album in the photos for this just to give people an idea of how big a rip off some spares are.
Obviously if it is a genuine error and it is subsequently corrected and refunds given to the poor blighters that have them in stock we will remove them from this “rogues gallery” of what we consider to be rip offs.
If you have any pics and comments please send them in as the only way it will get sorted is if the manufacturers are made aware of the issue.

KeymasterRe: HELP! TUMBLE DRYER ON FIRE! HELP! TUMBLE DRYER ON FIR
I’ve just read the report and it’s pretty conclusive that the fire originated from within the appliance. Given the age of it that can only have been from some kind of catastrophic failure IMO with the evidence to hand, but I’m no lawyer by a long shot.
If I were in the manufacturer’s shoes I’d settle the claim somehow to save on the negative publicity and the time that this would end up costing, but that’s not up to me. In the end I have my suspicions on the tactics that will be employed, but I’ll shut it for now.
UKW will not name the manufacturer or the claiments details until such times as this story is within the public domain or Benoit requests that we do so.
Benoit, thanks once again for the trust, information and the promotion, it is appreciated.

KeymasterIf a rogues gallery is wanted then it’s easy to create but I didn’t want to blat people’s names on the net without permission as those galleries are available to the public. π

kwatt wrote:I have had three NESN members on the phone between yesterday and today complaining about money being taken off them by NESN for βsite inspectionsβ carried out for work carried out at some time in the past. For each site inspection they have been charged Β£40! As Iβm sure you can appreciate this adds up to some considerable amounts in some cases, figures of many thousands of pounds have been banded about already. In each case there is no option in it, the member has been charged with the decision already taken to charge them irrespective. Some have already had funds removed from their payments without any consent or notice to the member.
The above was originally posted on Sat Dec 06, 2003 3:11 pm.
It turns out that a member doing installation work, fires I believe for B&Q, decided it was a good idea to fit a gas fire with a length of garden hose. Needless to say CORGI didn’t agree nor did B&Q and quite rightly so.
Hence every single installation has had to be inspected from what I hear on the grapevine, of course there’s no official comment at all.
Funny, I always thought that WP’s carried indemnity insurance against stuff like this happening, but it would appear not in this case and that NESN have or are charging their members for all the inspections. Interesting that is, I mean we are often forced to carry indemnity and public liability are we not? π

KeymasterNo problem Benoit and I will do as you ask, all I was saying is that these things have a tendency to drag on when the lawyers get involved. I’ve seen it so often, even getting an exchange appliance at times can take months of bickering never mind something as complex as this.
Most manufacturers (IME of these things) would expect you to accept a replacement appliance and a box of chocolates for your trouble and no, I’m not kidding. I’ve even seen instances where the manufacturer KNEW the potential problems, didn’t bother to do a recall and still denied responsibility when it went pear shaped!
It was not intended to dishearten you at all, from what I’ve seen of it you have a sound case against the manufacturer in questions, all I was saying was that it may well take a fair bit of time to get anywhere with it. π

KeymasterLOL, somehow I dout that Mr Blair or Mr Brown would see that as a valid reason to stay out of the Euro but it is a valid point nonetheless. You may have more luck in getting the two of them to insist that Tazzo’s are re-instated, brilliant things those were.
The cost to businesses to switch from Sterling to the Euro will be absolutely enormous especially for the likes of us who have had no call to use the Euro before.

KeymasterThanks Benoit I have no issue with publicity for the site and I’m quite sure no-one else will either and thanks also for the kind comments.
You may have noticed a story I posted this morning on the front page (http://www.ukwhitegoods.co.uk/article-527–0-0.html) about a Hoover washer that went on fire in 1999. That’s the case just been dropped after 5 years and, had it not been dropped, I suspect it had some way to go. π
In other words, don’t expect a quick resolution to your plight based on others I’ve seen in the past or this example, as these things have a tendency to drag on a bit. π
Sorry if that seems like bad news but at least you can be aware of it.
