no , made that mistake before of ordering a new button unit, hold down the child lock button for 5 seconds untill L lights up in the display, if you have more than one L lit its a fault on the control panel, I already have a video for this on youtube but in this video I just fitted a new board, this time I think I have repaired the board as prices have gone up so its not economical just swapping boards.

Start button does not always work and this is a very common fault, I have done these before by just fitting a new control panel, Im pretty sure its caused by the LED display having a leakey diode but the LED display is no longer available, However I think I have found a workaround now , the LED display is multiplexed with the key pad to save on input /output lines on the microcontroller so I have isolated the common display lines with diodes, I have a video going out tonight on youtube so will soon find out if it solves the problem.

Follow up on this microwave , so the problem turned out to be the magnatron 2M261-M32 but its not just a simple matter of fitting a new one as it still wont work.
The Eeprom on the main pcb counts how many times the microwave has failed to start normally and when the error count get to 8 the whole unit locks out and wont do anything , the procedure is to call up the error log and check all the stored codes , this tells you where the problem lies , then when you have replaced the faulty component you have to erase the stored codes in Eeprom B ,

if you dont clear the stored error codes the oven still wont do anything even after replacing parts .

OK I had another look on the internet and it seems to be called the” Service Test Mode” A neff instruction book for some other model suggests this can be activated by a button press combination , it even says the customer may activate this accidentally so its either a combination of sequential button presses or press and hold down certain buttons at the same time , time to start pressing buttons to see If I can find it by accident .

Hi , very many thanks for that , I see the problem now ,if the magnatron has failed to start for 3 times the microwave locks out and can not be re started until the error log has been cleared from the Eeprom , so my next question is how do I clear the Eeprom ,

I understand you might not want this information sharing on a public forum and it was suggested to me I should be in a trade forum because I repair for a living , not just microwaves , I also do TV , Audio ETC , I would be happy to swap to a trade forum to receive an answer.

I have these magnatrons in stock but no point in replacing it until the error log is cleared, this would also explain why just answer is advising to swap both pcb s .
Many thanks in advance . Michael Dranfield .

Hi , Dave many thanks for the reply , I have already seen that on Just Answer but these people in my opinion are not professional engineers, anyone with no knowledge can say just change this board and then if it does not work just replace the other board , I was kind of hoping for a service manual so I can do some component level fault finding rather than blind board swapping and someone pointed me to this forum , I repair for a living by the way ..

Sparking in the waveguide and damage to the magnatrons antenna is usually caused by a carbonizing waveguide cover, its a must to replace the waveguide cover before powering up the new magnatron, a word of warning though if your buying off the internet, inspect your new magnatron very carefully , I have seen old secondhand magnatrons cleaned up and re painted with silver paint to make them look like new ones again .
