aha!!! as if by magic, its sorted. iadom, you are a star!! thanks a lot.

I knew I was missing something simple. Next time I need to just take a bit more care. I usually take pictures of everything before I strip them down but I was in a rush.

    Cheers.

Re: Whirlpool American Fridge Freezer broken down – help!

    Hi all,
I posted very early on in this thread, one of the first pages, as my Whirlpool was acting up in 2005, we’d bought it 2004. I changed out a couple of caps on the rear board and sorted the problem. Just over the last couple of days I have heard and seen the dreaded clicking again! I’ve ordered the ‘fix’ off here and I still have some spare caps from when I bought a slack handful from RS whhen I first repaired it.

I just wanted to say if anyone is having problems with one of these in the N.Lincolnshire, East yorkshire area, i’m quite happy to come and help look at the boards for the cost of travelling fuel only. I have the required tools etc but probably not all the caps required. I am away till 5th October though.
Also, I do work full time so might not be able to get there within an hour or two!
    😆
    PM me if required.

    Cheers,
    Mike

Re: Whirlpool American Fridge Freezer broken down – help!

Just a quick question about capacitors. I can’t get my old brain cells working enough to remember. If I have a 500vdc 0.22uf cap, can i use this on a 250v ac system such as the fridge board? reason I ask is that rs have non left of other type and i was just thinking I could get the DC ones which I believe will work but they will be different part numbers from the one posted above.. Anyone any idea offhand? many thanks, michael

Re: fisher & paykel dish drawer

I’m just in the process of stripping my dishwasher and it’s a pig. The back isnt screwed so you have to pop the back off and i’ll probably end up using self tappers to replace it. I have a leak somewhere giving me the flood alarm but it’s very difficult to see where it could be leaking from. You pay quite a bit for these machines and you’d expect they would be decent quality. The saga continues….

Graphite: got the caps from RS as was posted above.
Just changed the right hand side one (compressor control one I guess ) as the compressor was the only thing not working. Would be handy to have a circuit diagram though. The above picture is the circuit board and caps are indicated on it. (4 in a row, .22uf 250v ac, white coloured )

    kwatt:
maybe I worded my post wrongly. I know that the engineers themselves are governed by servicing costs set by the companies. The companies are ripping people off which is why this site is such great help.
As for working with 240v, I couldn’t agree more with your comments. Luckily, i have spent the last 17 years as a marine engineer and worked on voltages from millivolts to 6.6Kv. A capacitor changeout is a relativley easy task if you know what you’re doing and can be careful with a soldering iron.

    Cheers,
    Mike

Re: Fisher and Paykel Dish Drawe type flood alarm

I’m gonna have a go at this myself. i fitted the kitchen and all the appliances so I know how it all comes out. i might even do a step by step diary as i pull it to bits. Am I right in thinking tha the leak is most likely to be an ‘o’ ring seal or a part I would need to order? Thanks again and i’ll let you know how I get on. Oh, one other thing, does it reset automatically or do you need something to reset the alarm?

    Cheers.

Many thanks. Is it possible to investigate myself do you think or would i need specialist tools?

Ok, I just followed the instructions above and the fridge and freezer are now working. total cost? £4.09!!!!!
NOT the rip off cost of a proper service engineer from Whirlpool. (sorry to all those service engineers tho!)

    Many thanks Duffer

Re: Whirlpool American Fridge Freezer broken down – help!

    Hi Guys,
    I have an Whirlpool american fridge freezer, 18months old. It’s a S20DRSS33 and the other numbers are 8586 158 15020 and 11 0423 000307.

Couple of weeks ago the lights flashed and funny noise heard by the wife but I didnt hear it so made a sound for her and she says like a relay chatter sound.

two nights ago the freezer side stopped working and we got the warm temp up. Yesterday the fridge side gave up. the cooling fan at rear is working if left plugged in and switched on. The lights all work. Display at front is working but the compressor won’t run. Am I looking at a similar problem with Capacitors? If so I cold go out today and buy it and do the job myself. (qualified engineer) but I work on large scale machinery and A/C compressors!!
Any help would be really appreciated as we have a 5 month old baby and all of his pre prepared food has been ruined, along with a freezer full of stuff.
    many Thanks
    Michael
