ParticipantRe: Defrosted now dead ?
Every cloud has a silver lining.
Afraid that my Mrs will not be without a fridge until new part arrives and has already ordered a new fridge freezer that is arriving tomorrow.
I will still attempt to repair the old one because it will become my new bait freezer 😀
Thank you very much for your replies guys, I’m one of those who begrudges getting anyone in to fix anything and the stickies/search function on this site have helped me no end to sort out all sorts of problems for myself friends and family.
Thank you again and until the next time ……….MJJ58

Thanks for that but I have another question, if thats the problem why is it dead but not blown the fuse ? Is there an internal reset ?

ParticipantRe: Defrosted now dead ?
Yes, sorry, I should of added that my first point of call was to check the fuse, which was ok.
After reading some of the excellent free info on this site I’ve been testing around various components, not really knowing what else to do and I found two small black boxes (?) that are fitted to the lower right of the evaporator. One has brown wires the other blue. The brown wired one is open circuit while the blue is around 25 meg. Have no idea what they are or there function but its the only thing my limited understanding tells me may be at fault.
This episode began with the fridge not getting cold while the freezer was fine. Utilising this forums search function I discovered that it may need a defrost and when I dismantled the freezer section I was honestly shocked at the volume of ice around the evaporator, surprised the thing was working at all. As this began late yesterday evening I used a hairdryer on the ice as with current temperatures I doubt if that amount of ice would defrost overnight.
Both these little black things where completely encased in ice so it is possible water got inside but I don’t know.
Got the Mrs breathing fire now and its friday so the pressures on me !MJJ58
ParticipantRe: Miele T234C tumbler fusing.
Sorry to delay in replying but we had a cookie problem and I could not log into this forum.
Thanks for the informative response, naturally I did’nt try any further and we got a chap to come out to it and he removed a fairly pathetic little lump of fluff that was blocking something and the dryer is working fine once again.
There is though now a bit of a problem with the washing machine. The washer had to be pulled out in order to access the power point for the dryer and now everytime mum puts it on the water pipes bang when the machine stops filling. Any ideas ?MJJ58
ParticipantRe: Hotpoint WD440 aborting programme.
Got no further responce so called Hotpoint who could not come out for nearly two weeks, Mrs would’nt have that so we got a local chap in who spent some time fiddling about before telling us that it was the “control system” ? He did’nt seem totally confident but we let him order some parts that he charged us £110 for(inc labour). I was’nt home when he returned a couple of days later but the Mrs said he took the machine to pieces and was in our house about an hour before he pronounced it cured, and, touch wood, its still ok.

Got a new thermistor from a local shop, fitted it yesterday.Mrs said it did two 40 degree cycles ok but aborted again on the third.Shes certain it went 10-15 minutes into the wash.Same lights flashing.
I dusted off my multimeter and tested the wiring(used to be a sparks) and the element and motor but could find no hint of a fault, could it be the PCB ?MJJ58

Hi and thanks for the prompt reply.
Yes it is lights 1,2 and 4. Is that component a thermostat ? -
