Thanks. I applied the sealant. Hopefully that will make it airtight again. Will keep an eye on it. Cheers.

ParticipantRe: Inside freezer door cracked by parcel shelf lid
Thanks for the quick reply. I have some sealant that I used recently for the kitchen. I can try that. The freezer is chock full right now. Is there any chance I can attempt the repair without emptying it. I know the sealant gives off a strong smell while drying so i’d rather not close the door but it’s only going to be a small amount. Actually, will it even dry in freezing conditions?
After I applying the sealant, if it doesn’t work, what problem am I likely to notice?
I can claim through insurance if necessary. Any idea how much it would be for a replacement door or repair?
Thanks again. Really appreciate the help.

Are you saying expanding foam was used inside the door? Out of interest, do you know what the circular crators are for?
In any case, thanks for the info and it’s good to know they won’t affect the function of the unit or indicate that it’s been bashed about.
Cheers.

Just off the phone with the supplier who offered a 15{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} discount 😀 which I happily accepted. My jaw dropped when she said fifteen … percent instead of pounds.
Thank you, thank you, thank you Martin.

Thanks for replying.
The dents must have been there before the unit was delivered as the delivery men were quite careful unloading and unpacking the freezer.
If the dents don’t affect the working of the freezer, I’m inclined not to go through the hassle of arranging return and redelivery.
Got one other query about the back of freezer before I make a decision.
Here are some pics of the dents.

Miele engineer No2 came and fitted the new motor. Started it up again and it’s making a noise. A little quieter but same noise. Engineers says that’s normal, that’s the brush motor, don’t say i’ve changed it for nothing.
Well upshot is, the machine sounds better. I’m happy that the noise isn’t a problem with the running of the machine and the engineer says the brushes may bed in after a while and the noise come down.
I am, however, surprised that Miele think that this sound is perfectly fine and normal as it’s not something i’d expect to hear on a £500 washing machine.
Thanks for all the help and advice.

Miele engineer came today. Said that the sound is the brush motor and that sometimes they do make a noise, although that won’t affect the wash or the life expectancy of the machine. I said that I don’t want that noise on my new £500 washing machine and he agreed to order a new motor. They’re coming next week to fit it.

Okay, called comet and they referred me to Miele who are going to send an engineer out next week. Thanks for all your help. Will let you know how I get on.

No sorry, I’ve just looked up a Premier 520 and they don’t have Transit Bolts but 2 ‘Transit Bars’ and I’m sure they have both been successfully removed and stored onto the back panel by now?
If the noise persists I suggest you contact Miele sooner rather than later over this. 😉
Yes, the 2 transit bars have been removed and placed on the back panel.
I bought the machine from comet clearance, so I’d probably want to contact them in the first instance (any reason I should contact Miele instead).
Reading comet’s T&C, it says “A free service visit will be arranged if your product develops a fault within the first year warranty period, however we reserve the right to charge a callout fee of £25 if on visiting your home, the product is not faulty.”
Do you think the noise in itself qualifies as a ‘fault’ as in my mind, a new washing machine esp a miele should not do that. What are the chances Comet will try to slap on the fee?

Martin wrote:The Transit Bolt Collar has not been removed. He’s taken the bolt out but the collar sits between the drum and the cabinet and has to be removed. Sounds like one of them is rubbing against the drum pulley maybe?
Thanks for the advice. I’m not familiar with the Transit Bolt Collar. There’s no mention of it in the instructions, it just says that the Transit Bolts themselves need to be removed.
I shone a torch into the holes where the transit bolts go and there’s nothing inside there except for metal.
I did make a minor discovery. When I moved the machine out to check the bolts, I ran an empty wash to check if the noise had anything to do with the balance. With no washing, the noise is only very faint, but when I tried again with a load of washing in the same position, the noise is back.
Do you still think it’s the Transit Bolt Collar. If so, where do I find it?

Penguin45.
I’d describe it as a drunken fly. “eeeee” with a bit of undulation and occasional tone changes.
I’ve uploaded the a recording of it here. you can play it in quicktime.
