For anyone else interested in this post, the engineer visited today and confirmed he was getting no electrical feedback from the fan. This is going to be replaced next week.

Slight update on looking at the parts directory on the Siemens website. Despite having a grille on the rear, which most other sites I have looked at have said it wouldn’t then have a fan, there is a fan. Part 0301: https://www.siemens-home.bsh-group.com/uk/supportdetail/product/KG39NA93GB/05#/Tabs=section-spareparts/

Logically, it would make sense that this was the root cause. The freezer seems fine but the cold air isn’t being pushed up through the vent channels.

I have bit the bullet and paid for a Siemens engineer visit on Wednesday as we need it sorting. If anyone has any advice that might save me the cost of that visit, I would be grateful. I am not looking to replace internal components but happy to replace those externally accessible.

    Hi Dave

Good news. All now sorted after replacing that switch unit. I now have heat.

I had some issues with it when fitting – I noted that turning the dial didn’t result in the screw being turned on the silver thermo box attached to the switch. It just span around. I’m not certain what I did to fix it but think it was due to manually winding the thermo box to the opposite lock – assumption is that it was stuck fully open. Either way, whatever it was had the desired end result.

Some images of the broken brown original switch attached as well as a short video showing the “spinning” thermo box which might be useful for others who look at this forum.

    Thanks again

Hi Dave – just to clarify what I was saying – once the switch is replaced, is it fair to expect the heat to work again?

As a reminder, when I got it temporarily working, the oven fan and light worked but there was no heat, which is why I mistakenly assumed it was resolved.

Does that switch control the heat as well as the oven off on function? The dial itself is a temperature dial so I am hoping it will otherwise it may need more components replacing.

    Thanks

Thanks again both. I have bought the part and hopefully it will be here soon.

Is this likely to be the reason no heat was coming through (or the red light on the front)? The brief period where I got it working by “popping” the brown structure back within the black holding bracket did allow power / fan on and internal lamp but no heat.

Now though I guess it has popped out again as we are back to square one – nothing happening.

Thanks Dave. Yes, on inspection of the part, I can see a number on it “42.840.00” which matches the one in the link you provided above. I have bought that part now from the site and will hope for the best. **UPDATE – the part wasn’t in stock despite the site say ing it was so has been cancelled. I am looking elsewhere for the same**

The oven pretty much immediately went back to how it was – loose turning of the dial. I suspect it has popped out again so replacing the unit will help that part at least.

In terms of the lack of heat, do you think the switch replacement will fix that too? I am just worried about time and hoping that it isn’t potentially something else (such as that silver unit that is connected to the switch) that might add delay.

    Thanks again

I spoke too soon. While it now powers up the fan and the light comes on, there is no heat and the red temperature light on the front bezel doesn’t illuminate.

Very frustrating as I thought it was resolved.

I ensured all connections were firmly seated on the switch. There was no obvious damage to any of the wires.

    Any additional guidance appreciated!

    Hi Dave

Good news. After opening up the top and inspecting the switch, I could see it had somehow worked loose from the black retaining clip at the rear. The brown part was popped back in and it worked immediately as the switch gears could now connect. This explains why it felt more loose than others. No idea how that could happen but I will replace if it occurs again.

Picture above of the offending area.

One sliced thumb later and its all sorted (lethally sharp some of those edges!)

    Thanks for your guidance

Here is the link – hopefully you can see what I am getting at.

    https://app.box.com/s/y7qxd8zy9o5z2bvf11dlt0x09fxh4amf

The red is where the 4 outer screws are, which hold the bezel in place left and right.

The blue is the dial in question, for operating the larger oven on the right hand side

The Yellow is where there are 5 screws holding the top sheet to the front panel

The Green being where there are multiple screws holding the top sheet down to the oven body

I am going to unscrew them later today and inspect the component / see how it looks.

    Thanks again

    Thanks Dave.

I’ve had a walkthrough before unscrewing anything and I believe / hope it’s a case of 2 screws each side (holding the side bezels in place) then 5 at the front facia inner along with multiple under the burners holding the top sheet in place. I have easy access to the sides and back of the oven thankfully, even though at this stage I don’t think any screws are on the rear for the top sheet.

I was going to attach a picture but I’m restricted by limits.

I’ll try this tomorrow and see if any obvious burn marks. If nothing, would you suggest it’s still likely to be fixed by replacing the unit?

Having reseated everything, it does seem to have more play than other function buttons. As though something has given way inside. Not totally loose, just looser than others.

    thanks again

Great. Thanks, I will try this. I assume the knob will just come off with a firm pull?

Hi Dave – I am not sure what you mean unfortunately. What would you suggest I try? The knob itself or an electrical component behind the covers?

The knob doesn’t feel loose compared to the others.

    Thanks

    Hi Dave

Yes it does have a clock. The other oven on the left continues to work fine. The time is correctly set and the countdown timer works as normal.

    Thanks

    Martin
