ParticipantRe: A Comment Was Made…
Hi all, I have not been around here for a while 🙂 , but the comment that was made seems possibly out of proportion. Why you may well ask, well it is this, I would not betting a bag of Walkers Crisps (any flavour 😀 ) the the person making that comment has not paid for his employment or towards any training… :eeek:
To get onto a gas course one needs some gas experience in one way or another, then the financial fun starts (or not). Like Ken has said “tell you what, you get a Gas Safe qualification, a van, an accountant, insurances, fuel, van stock, IT stuff and all the rest then go out there, look at it, fix it or order parts and got back then fix it… for less than £50 and see how long you last in business” is so true, the cheapest part of this is the fuel to put in the van.
As many of you know I retired some 6years back, I cant see how things would have changed that much. Anyway’s labour for that sort of work I would imagine be around the £120 mark, depending on the area one works.

ParticipantRe: Asko Dryer parts req
I have now ordered all parts from James Armstrong. It seems my old account is still standing, so, that is a bonus me thinks.
Thank you both EFS & jag-12, for your help and assistance.
All that is left now for me to say is, I am booked into the hotel for the 23/24 of this month, so see you all there, and if either of you both are there, then I think a drink will be in order.

Thanks for that, I had forgotten about Armstrong’s, I had an account with them many years back. However the part I want is by far cheaper from Armstrong’s, so i will go with them.
many thanks, much appreciated.

ParticipantRe: DASA membership at all time low?
Ken, when I was with DASA, it was the same. I used to send out A5 size booklets to all members, also used Mailchimp. The member numbers grew quarter on quarter, sometimes in one or two’s others five to nine’s. Work was slack for some and busy for others but there was communication, and DC and I used to push the top table, me, I stood up for the small businesses, DC for the larger ones.
When Burnsy was mas redundant from Whirlpool, I made sure he was kept in the loop with info. Infact I used to keep everyone who left in the loop with information. DC used to contact those who left and ask “why”.
I am of the understanding none of this happens now, if this is true, then they have themselves to blame. DC has said to me very often, “if DASA asked me back I would accept on the proviso of a full apology and a certain Council member/s was to resigne from the Council and the Association”, we both agree pigs will have wings first.
Would I go back and help out, yes if they paid me, and as DC said about an apology and resignations, but they would do neither. So I reckon you have it about right here at UKW, you help each other, give and take banter and have a healthy membership.
All I can say is,”nice one”.

ParticipantRe: DASA membership at all time low?
It saddens me to say, DASA has or seems to have not only gone down hill since DC and I left, but the membership is in decline; and, as far as I can tell they do not seem to be wanting to keep members either.
If you take into account how many are on the Council, providing it is a full Council, membership would be around ten/fifteen, if the Council is just the basic, ie Chair, Vice Chair, Secretary & Treasurer, that takes care of four members, so the maximum they must have is around the thirty mark of members. To me that is like running low on fuell, err, reserve me thinks.
Still that is up to them how they think best to run it.

Steve don’t bother, they have strongish ties with Connect. If everyone gives them a wide birth, they will decline even more, they do not have any loyalty from me, not any more.
Martin, I have been enjoying retirement for a while now, would like to catch up with you guy’s sometime though, may even bring the MH and stay over!

ParticipantRe: DASA membership at all time low?
Martin, DASA and I parted company soon after I retired, it was thought by those who should have known better, that I was trying to undermine them and take away there membership. Dave Coombes was, well I shall be kind and say “run rough shod over” whilst he was helping them, I saw the emails that were sent to him and I was stunned by the wording. All this was carried out by the Secretary and Burnsy knew about it. Both Dave and I were fuming at the way we were treated, and it made not a jot at that time as we were both castigated. So I have no sympathy for them at all, one bit in anyway shape or form.
Anyway folks, I hope life is treating you all well, it is me and her indoors, as we now have a nice motorhome and are at this time In sunny Broadway Warwichshire or somewhere like that. Back home tomorrow, then Wales the week after, Prestatyn or near there anyway.

Now it is September, still not many members. DASA is not the Association it once was, despite what Burns says. I wonder how many Associate businesses are members.
As far as Northants being bombarded, I have seen nothing to that effect.
Ah well such is life.

ParticipantRe: Has DASA gone?
Martin, Alex seems to have some issue with me, I do not know what it is, it must be something to do with DASA. I have no issue with Alex.

ParticipantRe: what do you mean you cant turn it off??
Aha, that sounds familiar, it becomes our fault due to the ineptitude of the builder/installer/kitchen fitters. I used to carry equipment to cut out the offending sections and inform the customer of everything including extra charge to non appliance work, also to inform the customer to claim the extra cost from whom ever fitted the units. Oh the kitchen guys loved me they did, dont know why…………… 🙂 🙂 🙂

Why is it when you visit a failure the customer will always quote the the sales person as being the knowledgeable one and the engineer as the idiot who does not!!!
I used to mentally shake my head and think what a twat (sorry for the offensive language) 🙂 🙂
