ParticipantRe: If Installation Fault Charge User
For once I can actually praise Whirlpool in this situation. I attended a meeting several years ago where it was agreed that for all in guarantee calls the truth needed to be told to enable user manuals to be accurate. Bearing in mind that most are written by Germans or Italians, I,m not being racist but it was to enable the translaters to understand what needed to be put in to the manuals. There is even a closure code for faulty installation in case the install advice is incorrect. All calls are paid for. K

No that’s the patch we put over his mouth after 12 to control his alcohol intake.

ParticipantRe: Oi, stop it!
Just go back to Kens original post and his displeasure at the “fragmentation” this is causing. He is quite right to be concerned by the tone of the reply & counter replies that Kevins quite reasonably phrased post on the subject has created. Surely “Rumors” are there to be discussed not to open a personal slanging match which ensued. DASA is quite different from UKW and its members need to understand this. One of the oldest methods of causing defeat and disorganisation is to “divide and conquer”. If the tone continues along the same lines then this will happen & DASA will be more alienated than it is now from the very people it needs to encourage to join. We need to be singing from the same hymn sheet to improve the opportunities for one man bands and slightly larger companies.

Dave,
Make sure you get the free drink before 12 because we know Cinderella Mckenzie goes to bed at midnight, at this time he is normally incapable of coherent speech. Kpatches
ParticipantRe: UKW…The future?
Just a brief reply to this Martin. You say “we have only a limited response and notice from the trade and that we get nothing from the site”.
I have to disagree because the company I am part of has had several contacts from WP’s because of our registration with UKW. These have resulted in some lucrative contracts which are dependable and also honorable to deal with. This has allowed us to invest in technology for our staff which gives an even better service and gain more revenue which is what we are in the business for after all.

Book an all day call and when the engineer gets there says “you can’t come in because I’m preparing dinner can you come back later”, it’s now 4.30 pm, how much later???

ParticipantRe: 30,000 Reasons To Quit
I’ve just sold my business, my house and my wife and am on my way to Scotland to enlist, the land of high pay & living by the look of it. Should I settle in Govan a most sought after area?

ParticipantRe: Code letters
Long ago when I worked for the original Servis and in pre computer days we were passed work slips from the telephonists with the letters R.F.S at the top.
One of our new engineers panicked and phoned me up because he had received 20 “RIGHT F…..G SCREAMERS” and coudn,t fit them all in that day.
I laughlingly informed him that the initials stood for: “REQUEST FOR SERVICE”.

ParticipantRe: working together
Just thought I’d chip in for my first post in the war room.
Del was the afore said gobshite sat at our table for lunch at The DASA meeting on Saturday and dressed in a pretty shade of cream?
If so he & his partner were querying who John & I did work for. We also mentioned UKW & did not receive any reply which now becomes clear why.

ParticipantRe: Meetings & Contract Rates
We are currently doing work at below £35.00 for 2 of our WP’s out of 6. One is our main work supplier, which at present we need to stick with for financial reasons. The other we have tried for several months and have now decided it is not worth the hassle for this pitiful payment and will be terminating this week.
We have previously terminated GBDAR (spit) for similar reasons and one other for general incompetence
All work providers need to look at what back up they are currently providing to their agents. If they have tech info lines and stock ordering direct through them then it is ok to do work around the £35 to £40 per job but if all they provide is the customer then the payments should also represent that and be £40+ per call. Having talked and occasionally also listened to various engineers / companies at the recent UKW & DASA meetings I would say IMO that a mini revolution is happening within our industry and the tail is starting to wag at the dog.
