Hi Martin,
Not taken personally. I thought same as you’ve said, but i phoned police a few years ago in same circumstances as above, just for advice thinking they wouldn’t do anything and they were round within the day and sorted it. I’ve done this on at least 5 occasions since and they never fail to sort it. Maybe their reasons for sorting it aren’t what I said, but it’s certainly worked for me.

Phone police. If customer doesn’t pay it’s a dispute between you and her and police aren’t interested.If customer pays and cheque bounces it’s fraud, Police will go round and threaten to arrest them and they usually pay up. Done it lots of times
