Tested and it started tripping on the top+bottom only.
After a bit of poking i noticed the replaced thermostat wire (which is about 5x longer than needed) had started to unwind. Bingo – it had been in and around the spade connector to the bottom element and was touching it. Quick cable tie and testing later, problem sorted 🙂

Just to add, I replaced the bottom oven thermostat just before Xmas, so I have had it out and the back off before, wondering if it’s something in doing that? Was fine up until about 3-4 weeks ago.

It is 4 spades in 2 pairs
grey + red/white stripe
and then black + red on the lower one
edit: is it a case of piggybacking both cables onto a single spade?
double edit: I’m an idiot – they are already piggybacked
