Hello – 2 months on without an issue, today its tripped the RCD 3 times to point now where if its just turned on its tripping it again.

At present theres about 2 inch of water in the bottom, im hoping what ever is causing it drys out over night so i can start a wash which will at least do a drain before starting the cycle to save me having to start scooping the water out of it.

im at the point now thinking is it worth ringing someone to come and fix it or buy a new one for around £200….. Would anyone be able to share any rough estimates on what a worst case scenario cost would be to repair (West Yorkshire ) if i called someone out to fix it ?

im thinking it does not make sense to pay more than 40{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d}-50{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} max of the cost of a new one on a 9 year old machine… welcome anyone experience / thoughts.?

    Thank you

Just cleaned all the seals and put it on a 70’c long wash and its still running at present..

    Lets see what happens.

So it finished its cycle with no heat as per normal no issue.

I selected the 30’c temp programme and its completed the programme as per normal too..

When it cut out this afternoon, it was running on the hottest setting, i maybe completely wrong here, but is it possible for the steam to ingress into maybe the control panel causing it to short ? i only say this becausesometimes there’s a bit of condensation around the top of the door.

    thank you

ok – so i have just had a look at it now, first i plugged it back in on the off chance to try and start the drain cycle and its not tripped the electric, so i have just selected the no heat programme (thinking if heater matrix is at fault) and its started the cycle and being running for 10 mins now –

Ideally i wanted to enable a manual drain programe or test programme but didnt have this to hand so thought the no heat option may of been best.

I guess once this has finished the cycle i have 2 things to try – First is to find out what i need to press to enable it to do drain only. Then try it on a cycle with temp and take it from there.

    Right..

Hotpoint came out and sorted the problem..

As i posted the question up on the forum and i thought i will give you the resolve for future cases!

A control board had failed so this was replaced and the issue is now long gone!!

PART NUMBER – C00143056 – (on the box)

    On the part its self..

    JABIL Circuit. 21500 8184 00

    Mine has a date sticker of Week/Anno 44/ 2004

If you require any more info or a photo of the part let me know.

Re: HOTPOINT WD440 ON/OFF light Flashing

i know what you mean.. you get what you pay for… However when i got my WD440, i was not the cheapest option.. and in fairness i thought it “ok” for price etc.. The fact is i got that and matching fridge for my first home so i could of got a lot worse!!

    Anyway… back on topic…

If it is a board failure, i have been looking online and these seem to be around the £90 mark from Part master… however i got have a part number as yet so i could of been looking at the wrong part!! (and i know.. Part master is not the cheapest around but its ok as a guide at this stage.. )

The problem i have tho now is if i get hotpoint out it will cost me £89 for a basic labour repair, part replaced under warrenty.

FOR EXAMPLE – If the part was £90 – i run the risk of buying that and fitting it myself and that not been the issue..

Or going for the HOTPOINT £149 cover…

If i think of it this way….. part costs £90 same as call out… offset that price againest the £149, that means in theory for an Extra £60 i get 12 months parts & labour cover on the full machine.. £60 over 12 months £5 a month.. not bad for a piece of mind…

i will have a think tommrrow and take it from there!

Re: HOTPOINT WD440 ON/OFF light Flashing

Thanks for your inout.. I will have a look tommrrow and check the basics out.. however i reckon it will be a board error… it always is with stuff like this these days!!

My Parents used a guy a year or so back and he charges a £20 call out fee and first hour or so.. + parts,

If it was not a washer dryer i would just go out and buy a new one as you can pick a cheap washer up for around £200 now.. but as its a dryer its a bit too much to go down that route!

thanks again and i will post an update of my findings plus the resolve once sorted for future cases..

    cheers

Re: HOTPOINT WD440 ON/OFF light Flashing

    Thanks for the reply Iadom,

In regards to the circuit boards.. do you have any advice inregards to problem solving?

I am going to take it about tommrrow and check all wiring etc, do you have any pointers to the areas i should be looking at or know of any tests which can be carried out?

I have called Hotpoint today and they advised as the machine is 2 years old i can take an extended warrenty package out for £149 which they will repair the machine and provide 12 months warrenty on all parts and labour, or another option of £89 for labour only for investigating this issue.

I would like to attemp to sort it myself so any information you can share would be great.

(Im glad you liked the video.. thats the edited version where i had put the large sledge hammer away and cur the verable abuse i was calling it!! 🙂 )

    Thanks for reading
