Oh 😳
TBH, I assumed the flap would be reasonably dear. I also must admit I didn’t factor in the cost of the glue – I already had some. It’s only£5 a tube anyway.
Whatever

Before you spend your cash – might be worth a try with some Araldite Instant first. The datasheet says it’s good for -50°C to +65°C ‘Depending on conditions of use’
I managed to break the hinge off the door flap on our Fridge, and the repair has stood up for a year now. OK, so the freezer is a bit colder, but it’s worth a go I reckon. Before you start, rough up a bit either side of the break with a bit of fine sandpaper and clean with alcohol. Make sure the door is warm – the epoxy will heat on curing, but the cold will slow the process and you don’t want to be holding it together too long. After the initial cure has happened but it’s still soft, mix up a little more and build up a small thickened area on one or both sides to strengthen the joint. After curing, it’s best left ovenight to build up full strength.
Hopefully that should be all that’s required. It’s not the strongest of the Epoxies, but Rapid stays a bit flexible so should not get too brittle in the freezer.

Thanks both for your replies. I’ve read all the advice linked to (and followed on with quite a few more) I have to say – the amount and quality of the information available on this site is really quite impressive. Funny I’ve never stumbled across it before this week.
Anywho – I think I’m fairly good at cleaning our machine, although I certainly don’t manage it every month, more like quarterly. Also, I’ve just refitted our kitchen, and the washer has now got it’s own standpipe.
The important point I’ve noted is that because we use exclusively a coloured detergent (Sainsburys), it won’t be much use for the maintenance wash. I reckon I’ll pick up a pack of Aeriel bio tablets for the whites and the maintenance wash in future.
And I’ll ditch the Calgon for good.
Thanks again for the advice…

ParticipantThanks Mr Penguin.
FYI, I measured it overnight and wouldn’t you know, it seeemed to be working fine! The middle shelf went from 4°C to 1°C on roughly a 3-hour cycle, with the top being +2° and the bottom shelf -1°. Both middle & bottom shelves touched -1°C but only for about 1/2 hr.
Sounds normal to me…
Whatever – I’m sure the stat’s on it’s way out, so I’ll check the plate when I get back home for full info and post back.
Cheers,
Simon
