Hi everyone and many thanks for all the info.
Just washed a few towels and they spun successfully, 8) so it does sound as if the unbalanced load sensor was just protecting the machine.
I am a bit 😳 as there is a sticky about this which specifically points out that:
… a single heavy item may never spin as it will always be unbalanced.
Now, I am off to Afghan in a while …. don’t want the brushes wearing out while I am away. Anyone any idea of how long I might get out of the remaining 10mm of wear?
Thanks again 😀

Thanks iadom,
I will try washing a few towels – hopefully that will allow the machine to balance itself where a single item did not.

Thanks everyone.
The machine had a single but reasonably heavy when wet jumper (oh, and one small sock) in at the time. It does spin on empty.
I had a look at what I assume is the capacitor (top rear of the machine – RHS when viewed from front) and that has no obvious problem.
Regards and thanks again,
Springnuts.

Thanks – I have had a good look at the ISE stuff, and the washing machine in particular looks outstanding.
Just fyi the link to the ISE site on the review page http://www.ukwhitegoods.co.uk/modules.p … tent&id=59 is broken: it has a typo and links to http://www.iseapliances.co.uk/ .
Thanks again for your help and advice on this superb forum.

That’s the little tike! Thanks for your help – spare part on the way.
Btw, why are tumble dryers so expensive compared to washing machines? Is it simply market forces, or is it that they are really more complicated than they look?
Thanks again,
Simon

hmmm – nice repair, hasn’t sorted the noise out 🙁
The fan attached to the end of the motor is off centre and loose on the shaft; that doesn’t look right! Looked at other posts and think this is the culprit.

Hi dnaxton
Looks like a Snurble Grip Thribley to me – but it’s an unusual design. Is the machine a ‘grey’ import from the continent perhaps?

Hi Penguin45
Once again thanks for your advice and quick replies. I have emailed for prices. It may not be economic, but at least I will know, and I am pleased to have been through the stripdown process – if it is beyond repair at least I know it is, and am not wondering … !

Hi again – and thanks for all the tips.
Had to drill out the T30 Torx bolts securing the spider but it is off now and the machine apart …
… but I can’t remove the remains of the larger, front bearing from the tub. There is an inner lip to the bearing support housing that stops me getting a purchase on it to knock it out. Is this where I need a puller to pull it out?
Assuming that I can do this, what Drum Support & Spider Kit do I need please? Will it come with a new set of Torx screws for the spider 😕
My guess is Spider 1604290 and bearings 1604473.
… oh, and I need a new securing bolt for the back of the spider shaft as I had to welly the old one so hard the head is utterly trashed – protecting the end of the spider which I am now going to throw away!

Many thanks – I did not realise the whole front panel came off and was wondering how the drum would fit through the round hole! Well I did say I was a Newbie! I will take it slow.
My first look at the control panel only showed a couple of screws at the powder dispenser end. Is the control panel simply clipped in at the other end, or are there more screws please?
Your warning about making diagrams noted and taken to heart – thanks. My plan is to draw diagrams on a piece of cardboard, and to push the screws into the cardboard at the right place on the diagram. Maybe take photos too. If it all works I will put it on the Web.

Thanks for the tip – I thing I am OK as the bits I can see have screws rather than welding.
