At The Present Moment I Would Resist Buying Any Parts Until You Have Completed The Strip down.

There Are several Ways You can go And It Depends On The Condition of The Components After Everything Is Cleaned Up.

The Seal comes The Bearing kit.

The bearing Removal can be Difficult on Theses Drums if You Don’t Have Access to A bearing removal tool
And resetting A New one Can be just as bad You will Have To Set it Square Without Any Damage. The Inner bearing is set deep in The Drum.

First Of All you Will have to Clean The Drum Spider up where you can see The Rust This Could Prevent It From resetting on the New bearing Or Tub.
You can use A Wire Brush or Wire Wool Or A brush On A Drill or A Brush On A Angle Grinder.

I Would Suggest If You Decide To Use These Tools That You Wear Clear Face protection Something Like A Face mask Similar to What The Local Chaps Wear When They Are Cutting Striming The Grass Verges. and Gloves

Bearing Removal Clean Round The Seal.
You Will Need a 10 or 12mm Punch A Old One Works better it has A bit Of A Grip. A Steel Tube or Jack bar
First Knock The Rear bearing Out The One That’s near The Belt Pulley
Don’t use Heavy Force Just Tap it
12 3 6 9 O’clock And Then at 10 20 40 50 of The Hour Just Keep repeating That Until the Bearing Is Out.
The Same Applies To The Inner Bearing But This can Be very Stubun And Tight.
Take Note When Attempting To Remove The Inner bearing With A Punch Place The Punch At the Outer Race of The Bearing At All Times There Is A risk of Separating The Bearing breaking It And You May be Left With Part of The Bearing race Left In The Drum.

Thanks for advice. When i start to use the punch do i start from the opposite side to the bearings to knock them outwards, im guessing theres only one way to knock them out ?

iadom wrote:The seal is the give away, the 35mm bearings have a different seal. As a cost saving exercise the Indesit Company decided to use smaller, cheaper bearings. Sadly they fail in no time at all as you have realised.

If you are unable to remove the bearings from the drum rear or damage it in the process you would need to fit a new drum rear. This is only availble with the 35mm bearings so would also need a 35mm spider & shaft.

do indesit make bearings for hotpoint? coz mines the hotpoint, 30mm are not as common i read.

just out if interest when i measure the bearings diameter do i measure from outside edge to outside edge?

iadom wrote:Bearing kit does include seal, bear in mind that you have the 30mm bearing assembly so don’t bother with the drum rear half linked to in a previous post unless you fit the 35mm drum spider as well

Knock out the small rear bearing first, then the main bearing and seal. Use a large cold chisel or similar.

Don’t put heat on it or you may damage the nylon drum. Support the drum as best you can whilst doing this.

    Bearing kit

How do you know i have the 30mm bearing assembly, is that from the pics ? Is the bearing assembly the bearings themself? Not being a dummy just new to this, first time ive tried it.

Im a bit confused by the bit about the 35mm drum spider, why would i need to change that and why is there different sizes of bearing availablefor the same washing machine? I take it bigger bearing sizes/widths are more reliable and harder wearing

I wont replace the rear half, shouldnt need to should i ?

Re: Drum bearings advice needed?? Hotpoint wf100 drum and PH

Update : I manage to get the drum loose from the plastic casing by using the drift and propping the plastic drum up as suggested, which is the best way to knock the bearings out, i mean do i start from inside the drum and knock out or do i start at the back of the drum where the pulley wheel went ?

what about the rubber seal, if i buy a bearings kit is the rubber bearing seal included ??

i will attach some more pics to this and hope it is useful to anyone else attempting this job for the first time in the future. Just hope the job is succesful and i manage to get the bearings out easily and the new ones in.

Does anyone have any tips for bearing removal, wd40, heat etc ???

First Of All Prop The Outer Drum So That The Steel Inner Is Clear Beware There Are Three Locating Tabs On The Outer Drum Keep The Props Clear of Them.

At This Stage If You Can Get Someone To Hold The Drum With You.

if You Have Access To Something Larger Longer Than The Extension bar Old Car jacking bar Or heavy Tube So that Your Hands Are Clear From The Strike Point

It Will be Better To get Someone To Hold The Drum At This Stage

hammer The Drum Spider At About 5 Shots At A Time In A Continuous Momentum With a Lot Of force.

once Its Released send A Couple Of Pics Of The Drum Spider where The Belt Pulley Shaft at The End of The Spider.

which is the drum spider ? do you mean the metal shaft that the pulley bolt goes into ?

Ok ive fitted the pulley bolt and hammered the pulley bolt with a club hammer [see pic ] and metal drift and only moved it maybe an inch so its now flush with the bearings. Have absolutly wacked it to move it the small amount that i have. So much that ive bent the bolt slightly.Would i have been better off trying to dislodge the bearings first ? I am also hammering the shaft, side on, because if i put the drum face down and wack it i might damage the drum metal. ❓

any tips for removal ? pic below of ‘progress’ made, without the bolt in place !

is it ok to use a metal extension bar to knock the bearings out as a drift ?? ive got an extension bar in my socket set that ive used on my car to do repairs

ok will give that a go later, is it a hard job getting the old bearings out and the new ones in?? do i need any special tools for this? any tips appreciated 😀

on the photo i will post below, is it the raised bit that i should knock through?? I still need to get the other half of the plastic casing off to get access to the bearings fully, also do i need to buy a back half of the plastic drum or can i just buy a bearing kit for this job ? This is the first time i have attepted this job
