Re: Hotpoint 9534A Rinse Hold Issue

Hi Andy, the machine is not plumbed in so I just tried it empty by selecting the bow tie symbol before the delicate short spin. I even changed the button bank and checked the connections again but the machine continues to act as if it was a 9514 with the manual rinse hold where you had to advance the dial manually. The timer shouldn’t be done for as it came out of a working machine and it is the correct model of timer.

    Quite confused now… 😯

    Hi Martin,

Yes you nailed it! Too many pink wires to fiddle with so one managed to get put in the wrong place. All is fine now and the timer is functioning correctly so that it now completes the drying cycle.

Funny I never thought about plumbers tape, I’ll try that tomorrow morning. If not then I will just have to revert to my old reliable arrangement even if I had to change over hoses now and again.

Nope, looks like this one wasn’t mean’t to be either. Ah well there will be more 95’s that will be in working condition.

    Re: Hotpoint 9524A No Power

Martin, the timer looks like that yes. Doesn’t front panel of the timer un clip and come off? Timers are way too expensive for me, I’m only 16. Is there anything I can do at all. There was a date scribbled inside the machine saying that the timer had been repaired. I love a challenge and opening up a timer will be a good one if I know how to get at the switch…

    Re: Hotpoint 9524A No Power

Nope not doctored. 🙂 There are four wires at the very front of the timer for live, neutral etc. I think. Four spades on the timer itself too. Two wires are connected through a small green connector and then the two wires below are connected with insulated spades. Maybe this is original or not but it’s all there. The switch must be done then. How to I open up the front of the timer to access it as I’m sure I can fix it.

I’m really happy it’s just a switch problem. If that fixes it then I’ll have a very nice July 1988 9524 with minor rust under the front panel.

The one with two wires or the one with many wires? So I can save it? 😐

    Re: Hotpoint 9524A No Power

There are two green connector blocks? There is a small one which I assume you are referring to and a longer one. I’m not with the machine ATM, my collection live as Gran’s up the road.
I don’t remember any burning but I’ll look again tomorrow. If that’s the problem what do I do? I could carefully dismantle the front of the timer and sort it?

    Re: Hotpoint 9524A No Power

Could it be the push/pull switch in the timer? :O It’s the first thing after the supressor and controls power to everything. That’s bad. :/

    Re: Hotpoint 9524A No Power

    Hi again,

No connectors are burned… I hooked the timer motor to the suppressor and it worked so neither are at fault. However when everything is connected; nothing. Certainly a head scratcher. It’s as if power isn’t reaching the switches in the timer. I must look at the bundle of wires going from suppressor to timer but it would be impossible for them to get damaged there. I forgot to mention that when I was dismantling lastnight, I accidently turned it on and it tripped the fuse. I assumed this happened because the module was already taken out and the wires shorted. I bet that damaged it. Looks like this one isn’t mean’t to be?

    Re: Hotpoint 9524A No Power

    Hi guys,

Still no luck. The interlock doesn’t look fried. What is the first thing to get power after the suppressor? Would it be possible for the suppressor to have died? I really don’t havw a clue as to whats up, the timer and module look ok and hopefully aren’t damaged.

Re: How to replace dampers on Hotpoint 9536?

    Thanks Martin,

Fixed that, basically the previous owner had overloaded it and it jumped off the left shock, both aren’t failed (did the car shock test) so the machine is ok now thanks to you. There was one tiny crack in the baseplate near the right shock but by making a plate and bolting that on saves it from making it worse (not that the machine will be used at capacity as I prefer half to 3/4 loads in these classic machines, that and the fact that I have a wooden floor that springs). I’m so happy with this machine. I just have to clean up and refit everything.

HOWEVER; The pecker and cable must have came off with previous event so how does that fit onto the motor? How is it possible to take out brushes with the motor still fitted too?

How do I take this motor apart because I only got the top off and there are two bolts through the coil I got removed too but it wont come out as well as the armature.

Re: Hoovermatic Deluxe 3314L Tripping RCD

    Hi Martin,

That is very grim sounding news to a 16 year old collector… 🙁 What caused it to burn out do you think as when it was going well at the time and when it tripped there was no smell or smoke. I think I can source a motor for it but since I’m 16 it is the money that is the worst part.

    James.
