Thanks. I think I shouldn’t risk it, it is 9 years old and the LCD doesn’t work, there’s rust above the drawer and have to keep disconnecting blue wires every few weeks otherwise lights bleep all over the place.

I’ve had a look on eBay and think I can get a recon for around £30.

But I don’t want to waste that if motors dont usually blow on their own like that.

Could the pcb be shot now as well?

Thanks to all those who took the time to help.

Just an update that the machine is now working after I replaced the analogic pressure switch. (Purchased from UKwhitegoods – one good turn deserves another!)

The pressure switch arrived from bonny Scotland in three days despite the snow. (Although I’m a bit worried the switch looks quite different to my old one and is smaller, still shouldn’t complain if it works.)

Was very impressed with the quick despatch.

Sorry to sound like a dumbo. You just got a bit technical when you started taking about relays and transformers. (A-Level physics was done too long ago and I only got a C!).

Referring to PCB on my Zanussi washing machine. Have E31 error which could be PCB (from what I have read).

@Odom, when you say meter the pressure switch, do mean the cable? I metered the cable and got 0 ohms which I believe means the cable is fine.

Is there another check I can do to test the pressure switch?

Do these switches fail? I read somewhere that they rarely do?

Could the interference from faulty pump/s be putting the pressure switch out of range?

Thanks for all your replies so far. I haven’t called an engineer out (yet) because:
The machine is in a very small room in cellar (next to old coal storage bit). It’s dim and yucky down there. I’ve a bad feeling the engineer will tell me its pcb cos s/he won’t want to get dirty and get the hell out; also because I would like to DIY this for my own personal development – I like to try and fix things (drives the OH crazy though).

My machine works sometimes but fails to drain. Can hear the pump when I forced it through diagnostics.

Then wondered if pressure chamber/hoses blocked but the don’t seem to be.

Just want to exhaust all options before I order a pressure switch. The machine filled when I removed the hose to pressure switch which is why I thought it might not be faulty.

I’ve checked both pumps with multimeter and resistance was between 150 and 200 ohms which I believe is ok (I misquoted as 313 earlier).

Perhaps I’m barking up all the wrong trees 🙂

Hi

I let my machine dry out for a week with no interference from me!

Tried again today after drying the the pcb manually with cloth. Wasn’t wet anyway but plastic cover was damp.

Tried the machine and jumped when it came to life. Didn’t get too excited though; tried the drain cycle and that worked too. Could hear water draining.

So I tentatively put a wash in. It ran for awhile (difficult to say because machine is in cellar). Now it’s stopped again and display shows time of a new cycle.

The clothes haven’t rinsed I guess because it failed to drain? :con:

Help would be much appreciated especially cos I have a potty-training young -un who is having a few lapses!

Does the high water pressure make a difference? Did the machine take in too much water which is why it failed to drain on a proper wash (despite draining the first time when only a small amount of water was in it)?

Thanks for that. I thought I had nothing to lose by opening as still can’t get machine to work. Opened it to see if it was wet. I read another post somewhere where the situation was similar: machine wasn’t used for a few days and e31 error occurred. Just wondered if letting the machine dry out will help (bearing in mind it flooded in cellar where it was).
