ParticipantRe: After 6pm calls
As a one man band in my area, I dont get much choice. If I dont do them someone else will. I find that the customers who want an after 6 appointment are usually proffesional people who can’t or wont take the time off work, but if they want anything after 5pm from me it does cost them an extra £25.00. most are ok with this. I tend to book late appointments only on Tuesdays and Thursdays and I find most customers will wait if they have to for the late appointment.

Hi Clive
I rarely use any paper to book my calls now ( I do carry a notepad, but I find I hardly use it). When I’m out on the road, calls go straight on the pda. Its easy with the on screen keyboard when you get used to it. When at home in the office I tend to use the desk top PC. All the software can be used on either device. The unit comes with a calender version for the desktop which you synchronise via a cradle for the pda so you dont have to enter twice (it also syncs all the other information). I do write out receipts at the customers house though. I believe you can get a small printer that connects via bluetooth, but I havn’t really looked in to that yet.
As far as accounts software is concerned, I dont use it on my pda but you can get a version of Quicken for small busineses that comes with Palm software that you can fill in the day to day income & expenes etc and then sync them in the office (it can save a lot of time I am told)Toni

Hi Bob
The one I use is from these people http://www.handbase.com.
I know they do a version for Pocket PC. It very easy to set up (you can download the manual & print it from the website)

Hi
As a one man band, I have developed my own system using a Palm OS handheld. The calender, ToDo’s, Memo & contacts are ideal for for booking appointments and setting reminders etc.
I have also bought database software for it which is perfect for keeping a large database of spares (Currently 1500 & growing daily) with info on part number, price, cost from varios suppliers and monthly usage and more.
I also keep my daily calls on the data base which keeps track of all my outstanding and current work. This allows me to do a lot of my paperwork at the job as I can synchronise with the desk PC when I finish the days work.
Total cost me was £250 for the Palm computer and £30 for the database software
This will not suit anyone employing engineers, but for a one man band its ideal, and all in the palm of your hand, no heavy manuals, books or even a laptop.
I am looking into a Pocket PC version which apparently is even betterRegards

ParticipantRe: HOTPOINT wm
Hi Tony
Have you checked if the machine drains correctly?
If it’s slow this will couse the brush/es to burn & melt the housing.
I have had this a couple of times & stripped the whole drain system down to make sure it is all ok (on one I found a coin acting as a valve which was ok one min & not the next)
Hope this helpsRegards
