Thanks. I’ll check it out tomorrow. The engineer before the last removed the pump to check it for something so if it’s not back properly he must have bodged it.

I am sure it’s sat on foam, I only had a quick look – maybe I was wrong.

    I’ll post back tomorrow.

This is a different noise to the one the engineer came for lalst time. That was a squealing noise when spinning.

This noise sounds like it is coming from the lower right corner (if viewed from the back) which is where the pump is, which made me wonder about the pump.

I took the back plastic panel off which covers the hole where the pump is and the pump is not fixed to anything – it is just resting on a foam lump on the floor. Is it meant to be loose or could this be the cause?

Re: Hotpoint WD Whining on Spin

Definately a “Squeeeee” noise. It sounds like something which should be oiled to spin has run out of oil.

I guess this is something the warranty will cover?

    Thanks

No obvious noise today, but I have a few loads of washing and drying to do over the weekend so will see if it returns.

I have however booked the engineer to come out to check it over any way.

    Re: Noisy WD

    Thanks for the reply.

Would it be constant when drying though? Throughout the entire process?

More importantly, if I get a warranty engineer out and it turns out to be this, are they likely to cover it or charge me?

And finally, will it pack in?

If that’s the case then the people who take the calls don’t know about it as they said on working hours.

She did say the engineers occasionally “volunteer” to do weekends, but there was no way of requesting one of these slots and that they almost never happened.

Not likely 😀 But my job does occasionally mean I have to work out-of-hours.

But then I’m the customer in this instance, who has to be inconvenienced by taking a day off work to wait for an engineer to fix a 6 month old product.

I think that in the 1st year they should certainly give people the option of out-of-hours engineers. Yes, they will have to pay them more, but that a small hit to take for customer satisfaction.

Yes, if I were paying for a repair then I wouldn’t mind a premium for out-of-hours service, and when it’s a 1st year warranty issue, I think it should either be offered as a courtesy for your expensive product breaking down or an add-on when purchasing (like an extended warranty).

Thanks. Yes, all other machine functions are working fine. Just the heat for the dryer that is dead.

I know what you mean about wanting to get home at 5. But I’m sure there are people who would be happy to work outside normal hours given the choice.
