ParticipantThe washer claims to have something which can detect an out of balance load and it is supposed to slow it down so as not to bounce around the place. I assumed a sensor.
The last load it did this on had a jumper and pair of jeans amongst other things in, so I assumed when wet they weigh a lot and could throw it out of balance.
Why would you check the heater? (the heater was replaced about a year ago by the way when it failed).

ParticipantJust taken some stuff out (it was far from overloaded to begin with) and set it on a spin again.
Spinning fine now with a half load.
I am wondering if the sensor that slows it down if the load is out of balance might be faulty and making it think it’s off balance when it’s not.

ParticipantHindsight is a great thing, and so many people have told me that buying Hotpoint was a huge mistake. I have found that out the hard way.
Hoping to change to seperate machines later this year.
Any suggestions on good brands to choose?

ParticipantThis WD860 cost me just shy of £500. I hardly think that’s buying cheap. It was the top of the range model, and in terms of placement in the range is still fairly high I believe.
Had I purchased a £100 bargain basement model I would expect to get what I paid for, but at £500 I expected quality. I didn’t get it.
Add to that the days of work to wait for engineers etc. and iit was a very costly mistake.

ParticipantI have definately learned a lesson. I will not buy Hotpoint again – can’t trust them as a brand as far as I can thrown them and never will again I don’t think, and I won’t buy a washer/dryer again – I will buy seperate machines next time.

ParticipantBut since I check all the washing that goes in for anything in the pockets I am as sure as anyone can be that if something is in the pump, that it is not foreign to a load of washing.
I didn’t say these issues were exclusive to Hotpoint – merely expressed my annoyance that I have yet another problem with a constantly failing machine – however this one has or hasn’t been caused, all the previous incidents were component failure.
WDK8990
ParticipantNo problem – will do. Thanks.
WDK8990
ParticipantThanks, didn’t realise it was as easy as that to get into it – thought I’d have to pull all the pipes off it.
I’ll give it a try tomorrow night.
WDK8990
ParticipantIt should catch everything which the pump can’t easily spit out or what is the point in it? Either it doesn’t completely cover the pipe – thus making it pointless – or it has too large a grill on it – again making it pointless.
Is the inside of the pump easily accessible so I can actually check inside it for myself? If it IS just something in there then I can take it out and all should be well.
When I take the back of the machine off (the little white panel covering the motor and pump) I see two tubes attached to the pump – one thick black one which comes from the drum, and one thin white one which goes to the sink. Will taking these off show me anything?
WDK8990
ParticipantIF there is something in the pump, it is more than likely a button which has come off during the wash. This is far from careless – it is just one of those things.
Hotpoint could have put some sort of filter in there to catch these things and stop them getting to the pump – other manufacturers do.
A good shake of the pump has started it going again, but it still sounds rough.
Tried calling Hotpoint, but they shut at 3:30 on a Sunday – what a ridiculous time to close! If you make shoddy machines, you should at least open at times when the poor idiots who bought them might want to call.
I have had this machine 3 years, and I must have had an engineer out on about 20 occasions – all for things which were not user fault. This machine, and from what I can gather, most early WD860 models, suffer from problem after problem after problem.
WDK8990
ParticipantIt’s just packed up completely!
Calling Hotpoint now – so I can waste more of my time waiting for a repair man to come and fix it.
I will NEVER buy Hotpoint again.
WDK8990
ParticipantThanks for that. I’ll try and have a look. It’s not done it for a few days so hoping it has flushed it out if that’s the case.

ParticipantRe: Vax 6131 Spares?
Yes, the bent end.
But it’s the hose assembly I looked at and it was £30-odd.
WDK8990
ParticipantThanks
The wires on the heater have broken before and caused it to trip the fuse in the house whenever used. For that they changed the whole heater/fan assembly.
I am doubtful it’s that again as the electric isn’t tripping and it didn’t give a fault code last time, although with this pile of junk anything is possible.
Is the NTC the thermistor you refer to?
It is under extended warranty so they can come out and sort it.
Do you know if this is the sort of thing they would carry on the van, because almost every time they come out they don’t have parts for this model and I have to waste a second day waiting in for them to come with parts.

ParticipantThanks Everyone
Pump was not slotted in at all. I slotted it into place, put the cover back on and put it through a full wash and dry cycle with clothes in and not a hint of a vibration any more.
Guess the previous Hotpoint engineer who visited for something didn’t put it back together properly! Typical!
Thanks again everyone.
