As we’ve documented over the past years, gas cooking appliances have been on the wane in favour of electric alternatives and a new study presented to the UK government highlights this again.
We know, loads of people prefer gas. We get it and don’t need reminded of it, but the reality is, electric is safer, cleaner and more environmentally friendly. A number of people don’t like that, but it is what it is.
Juana Mari Delgado Saborit, a researcher at the Universitat Jaume I has been explaining the links between gas cooking and children with asthma and premature deaths associated with the use of gas cookers, highlighting the need for measures and policies to reduce emissions from them. The report essentially shines a light on findings that emissions from these appliances can lead to demonstrable health risks.

The findings are quite stark though, it finds that the World Health Organization’s recommendations are regularly breached in the average home in fourteen European countries and are believed to be the cause of 39,959 premature deaths in the EU and the United Kingdom.
This is just another nail in the coffin for gas, really, and it is very likely that in not so many years’ time, gas cooking productss are all but outlawed for a number of reasons, safety being the primary one.
