Time is running out, but Greenville city officials say they’re ready to do whatever it takes to keep 2,700 jobs in town.
Electrolux has threatened to move its operation to Mexico in 2005. But now, the city has a plan designed to convince the company to stay.
First, the city is offering a new factory. The Greenville plant is over 100-years old. Productivity remains high, but the factory is simply out-of-date.
The city manager and a team of six will travel to Sweden with the offer in hand and a package of incentives. They hope the offer will convince the appliance maker to stay in West Michigan.
“We’re looking to do that the first part of December. Hopefully they’ll grant that request, and we’ll need a public relations firm to help us put together the presentation,” said City Manager George Basonic.
