The European Recycling Platform has announced that it is the first waste electrical and electronic equipment compliance scheme to be running in multiple countries.
Although the UK has postponed implementation of the WEEE Directive until June 2006, several other countries within the EU implemented legislation on the recycling of electronic equipment.
And ERP – the compliance scheme founded by Braun/Gillette, Electrolux, Hewlett Packard and Sony – has already begun its take-back and recycling operations across Europe.
Collections have been up and running in Austria, Ireland, Portugal and Spain since Europe’s original “WEEE Day” of August 13.
