This is a simple case of misrepresentation. You will need to be prepared for the matter to go court if you’re going to get anywhere.

The first step is to write to the supplier, notifying them that you are rejecting the dishwasher because the lining is affected by food colouring. Explain that the manufacturer has said that this is a known problem, but you weren’t told about it at the time of the purchase, that you would not have purchased it if you had been told, and that you wish a full refund.

What happens next is down to you and the supplier, but if they don’t provide a refund, then you have the option of taking them to court.

Be civil at all times, and prompt in your action, and I will put money on the supplier giving you refund before it makes it into court. You may have to go as far as a court application before they take you seriously.

Have you been washing a lot of Indian food or similar as disclouration can happen in any dishwasher washing that foodstuff.

I dont eat indian but even so that shouldnt be the case. before this one i owned a hotpoint Aquarius for 13 years and that has never done that. Ive asked friends and theirs havent either

There is just no excuse for it really. Basically im not happy with it but they are saying tough luck!!

Age old problem. Made worse by Spag-Bol, Chicken Tikka or lasagne. Red food coluring agents will affect some plastics but not others. Dispenser for example, but not the wheels & supports.

We used to find in all the Zanussi D/washers we owned only certain parts were affected. Now we have an AEG made in Germany and despite the filter etc. being grey, you can tell it is still tainted.

Hardly a thing worth getting stressed about. The machine will not be impaired by this, and the affected parts will probably outlive the rest of the product.

Why should i pay over £200 for a product, whether it be a dishwasher, washing machine or tent and after having it, not even 2 weeks, it discolours when my old one didnt?

Its like buying a pair of curtains with a hole in the middle of them or they have discoloured. Great!!! they still work but you wouldnt settle for the flaws so why should i with the dishwasher?

And the fact the bloke on the phone said that ALL their dishwashers do this, why havent they put this information in any handbook? if they know this they should inform the customer so then its up to the customer whether or not they want to buy it..

You’re welcome, and I completely agree.

If you want any help/advice with the legal process, I can give you chapter and verse on Misrepresentation and the law of Contract. This isn’t professional legal advice you understand, just the benefit of my experience with suing companies who don’t deliver a reasonable product or service.

The most important thing is to act promptly. If you feel strongly about it, then write the letter to the supplier without delay. Also, keep a diary of notes about what you do, and always put all of your expectatations in writing so that they can later be seen by a court.

Ok, what if you bought a car which worked but then the boot fell off? so you called the company and they say, “oh they all do that” are you supposed to be satisfied with that? The car still drives and works but minus a boot….
I think too many people “make do” these days.
