I wasn’t commenting on the discolouration [everybody else has done that], just on good practice when using a dishwasher. Even though Indesit is at the lower end of the price range a new machine should wash satisfactorily. if you’re getting poor wash results check that the rotating spray arm holes aren’t blocked with food; if they are, take them off and clean them out. the central hub of the arms comes off making it easier to get the bits of food out. Also check that the arms are rotating during wash by noting their position, then shutting the door & letting it wash for a few seconds and checking their position again. They should have moved. If you’re quick enough opening the door you’ll see them stop.

Hello all,
There is another factor which nobody has mentioned: the detergent.
The modern powders and tablets use oxygen-based bleaching agents. This can cause a build-up of tannins in teacups and teapots, etc. Tomato sauce can also be difficult to remove.
The older-style powders, which were more corrosive, used chlorine bleach. This bleaches much more effectively.
These powders are still available, from Cash&Carry wholesalers, farmers’ supply shops, etc. They are usually marked as “Professional” range; ie, “Finish Professional”, “Sun Professional”, “Bryta Professional”. Look at the ingredients – it should say “chlorine-based bleaching agents“
The downsides are: more expensive (larger pack size); and glassware is more susceptible to corrosion/etching (rainbow patterns, milky-whiteness, scratches, etc).

Just a quick reply.
Hotpoint and Indesit are now the same company under the Indesit Company UK Limited name.
I have a Hotpoint appliance built in Italy which is where the head office of Indesit is based.
I have also seen discolouration of internal parts of the dishwasher due to Spag Bog dishes being washed.
However after a few washes the colour can disappear.
Would recommend the following:-
Ensure that as much waste sauce is removed by running under the water.
Wash on high as level of the appliance this is normally 90-95 degrees – This also helps to clean the appliance again which should be run every so often.
Do not use rinse aide on Hotpoint, Indesit and Ariston (They are also made by Indesit) appliances if using a tablet with rinse aide included. This can cause leaking from the appliance as the appliance thinks that it has not filled to the right level. Also check the leveling of the appliance if this happens. 💡August 18, 2006 at 7:11 pm #156796DDSDDS
