no it wasnt lashings of tomato sauce and i dont really know what caused it but in my 13 years of using a dishwasher i have never rinsed a plate…whats the point? you might as well wash up if youre gonna rinse them lol

I got an email back from indesit (6 days later) and they have basically saidDiscolouration of internal parts of the Dishwasher – Discoloured Baskets / Dispenser Flaps etc.
and INTERNAL WHITE PLASTIC PARTS of the MACHINE TURNING ORANGE or PINK.Dark red coloured earthenware can sometimes produce this effect by migration of the colouring.
More common, is dishware being loaded with large amounts of tomato ketchup / or fruit juices present or the precipitation of the iron content in the water causing staining because of insufficient detergent and/or rinse aid dosage.
The staining is not harmful but cannot be removed.
Did i not know this originally????
Shame softus isnt here to read that

Point taken Chris. Was trying to get across the fact that our advice about the staining was correct.

I was a bit intrigued by the “earthenware” comment. Would you put such a thing in a D/Washer, as without being glazed? I would anticipate some saturation.
The effect caused by ferrous materials in the water supply is certainly a valid point, and would explain perhaps the effects might not be food colouring related. However, I tend to find that is age related, especially if the machine is connected to a hot supply. You would then have a leeching effect of the Xeolite crystals in the regeneration chamer, and transfer of rust following a build up from the water supply. That gives the effect of staining on cutlery in spots that look like tea leaves. (Don’t presume that the words Stainless steel actually mean that). In addition the inner liner would look a copper colour.
Perhaps the regeneration facility isn’t working. The salt should need topping up once a month assuming normal daily use. Worth knowing the time scale in this case and whether salt is in fact being used. How many months/weeks old is this machine?

Hi Alex
On the 15th December it will be only a month old but the discolouration happened at least a week or so after i got it, maybe even before and i dont put earthenware in it either

Yes as I thought, we can safely get rid of the salt theory and the ferrous materials causing staining. In any case as I said earlier, that tends to be brown rather than pink.
I only put up that idea in case any browsers related a similar scenario, but was due to rust spots.
Strange you are getting this if your’e not cleaning goods that were used with colouring agents. There is no doubt the cause is outside agents, just putting the finger on the problem would be nice.
Just out of intrigue, is this progressivley getting worse, stabilised of even started fading or disappearing? Also have you washed any plastic goods which have come out the same. Would be nice then if such an item could be sent for anaylsis by a boffin. Maybe the detergent company.

the staining couldnt get any worse, its at its unltimate now lol
its the same colour as it was when it was first done. I dont put plastic stuff in my washer only cutlery and crockery and dishwasher proof saucepans..thats it.
blooming annoying thats all.

Don’t try to do this from Your Account.
Go into Forums and then select Profile. Your avatar can be changed here.
It has to be no more than 7kb or 80×80 pixels
Hope this helps

Dishwashers aren’t waste disposal units. I advise all my customers that any utensils with left-over solids, tomato sauce, fat etc be rinsed under the tap first. It only takes a second or two and will improve the wash performance and prevent / reduce long term problems and blockages.

well…i do empty my plates obviously but a bit of liquid which can be washed away shouldnt affect the colour of the dishwasher and this is what im trying to point out…
I had no discolouration with my old Hotpoint WHATEVER i put in there…
Still after all this time the indesit is still discoloured and it doesnt wash as well…

Probably a different density in the plastic components. We find with some machines the filters for example will turn pink, then the wheels stay a pristine white.
We used to get this on our Zanussi with the top basket feed funnel, the filter, and the lid of the dispenser, yet the wheels and basket attachments unaffected.
Dare I say this, as with a lot of things these days, built to a price, and quality somewhat compromised. You do mention the wash results, I presume it does get to temperature o.k. if not you would need a service call.
