KeymasterCan anybody help?
my Ariston Margherita 2000 washing machine has been playing up. Mid way through a program (it gets up to the rinse section – i think) it stops and the program selector dial continues to go round. Any ideas what the problem might be?
would appreciate any advice. The machine is 3 years old and has been used nearly everyday, until now… 😥

When you say it stops, do you mean the drum stops rotating or all the functions stop ?
Is it draining the water away ? If not, check the filter for blockages.
Stopping on the rinse cycle could also mean no cold water is reaching the machine, is the cold water tap on and the hose ok (not kinked).
Some pointers that may help.

Had this problem with our machine and after messing around a lot the following procedure has been working out…
Turn the machine off – put the dial on the red spot – turn the machine on – wait for it to blink and reset – turn the machine off again and then chose your program and turn the machine on again…I had to follow this procedure twice the last half a year and both times it has solved my problem… looks like its a “alt ctrl del” of the Ariston 🙂

I had a call like this just the other day. It turned out to be the waste pipe was stuffed all the way to the bottom of the outlet pipe causing siphoning. Then the machine just stopped. I raised the waste pipe to the normal level and the customer has informed me that it was working ok now (they had just moved house). Have a look at your waste pipe and see if it is pushed all the way down, if it is raise it up. If you have a connection that goes into your sink trap disregard the above notice. Hope this helps

Samson,
You can get a copy of the ‘Users Operating Instructions’ by telephoning Ariston on : 0870 6070805
They will ask you for the Model number of course 😉
However a repairers ‘Service Manual’ is not available I’m afraid 🙁

There isn’t a download site as far as I know. Merloni, who own the Ariston brand choose not to make them available for download unlike most other manufacturers.

Had similar problem to the one discussed above caused by blocked filter. I was similarly able to reset the machine as described.
Now have a much bigger problem in that the drum vibrates badly and appears to strike outer drum (by the noise) at speeds above 500 rpm. The bearings have some free play but not enough to make the drum touch the side when tensioned by hand. I am planning to replace the bearing set but wondered if …
1. The bearings can be replaced without removing the drum assembly from the machine.
2. The fixing of the spindle to the inner drum may have failed … to check this I would need to remove the drum assembly from the machine but can the drum assembly be dismantled or is it welded up. I note that a drum assembly costs around £200 for the part which does not make this a viable repair.November 9, 2004 at 10:24 pm #112774Penguin45

Ariston Margherita 2000 is a generic for a range of machines, the specific model number would be a help – right lower corner of control panel ie A14..
Most of these machines have a removable cross piece on the rear of the tub. If it’s aluminium, there is a bearing kit available. If it’s cast iron, you’re supposed to replace the cross piece. Expensive.
The bad news bit is that the stainless tank is a sealed unit. If the drum support has broken an arm, you will need to replace the whole sheebang.
Or, as you have suspected, the whole machine………… 🙄
Luck and regards,

boomish, please read the 1st line of Penguin’s reply above yours – ref the model number 😉
If you can supply that, we should be able to advise further.

Owen,
It usually indicates that the Motor and/or Tacho Generator (the coil & magnet unit on the back of the motor) are at fault. So you got trouble with that one I’m afraid 🙁
