Electrolux to Build Dishwasher Plant in Poland Oct 27, 2004

Swedish home appliance giant Electrolux AG announced plans to build a U.S. $25-million plant in Poland that will produce dishwashers primarily for export to other European countries.

Construction of the plant in Zarow, in southwestern Poland, will start in the spring of 2005, while production of dishwashing machines should begin in the middle of 2006, according to Oscar Nowicki, the marketing director for Electrolux’s Polish office.

The company plans to hire 350 workers for the new plant and envisions producing 160,000 dishwashers in 2006 and eventually reaching a capacity of 360,000 units per year by 2008.

It will be the company’s second plant in Poland. In 2002, the company opened a factory in the southern Polish town of Siewierz that produces clothes dryers.

The Zarow-made dishwashers will be chiefly exported, with only a small percentage sold in Poland, Mr. Nowicki said. The number of Polish households that have dishwashers is only about 5 percent, compared to Western Europe’s average of 42 percent, the company said. (AP)
