SHARP is moving into white goods in Europe.
The company, better known over here for its consumer electronics products in particular LCD TVs, is trialling a £1,800 four-door fridge-freezer with a national retailer in the run up to Christmas.
If the trial is successful, the product, which has a capacity of more than 600 litres, will be made available to the general retail trade next spring and is likely to be accompanied by other models. These could include a two-door version and a four-door product with ice and water dispensers.
In preparation for its move into the main white-goods arena, Sharp has already set up a home appliances division and appointed Sabarah Hanif as product manager ““ she was previously a product manager with Maytag.
