Go on then. Someone will know an easy way of getting those ba#*$@d retainer springs on.
I jam a extension socket bar in on the left at nine oclock to the door, over the spring and groove, and finger gently ( 😯 ooer missus) the spring around the seal.
I struggled for ages yesterday with a wjs 1296 w/d one and am thinking of putting a claim into Zanussi for oncoming Arthur Negus!!!
AArgh again!

Don`t think you`re doing much wrong , it`s just one of them tasks that needs practice and patience.Personally I put an old blunt screwdriver through the door interlock/lach plate to act as my third hand.
Little bit of lubrication can help also.Bryan

put a long screwdriver through the interlock and use your upper arm to
keep it tight and then feed it round, its like having 3 hands instead of 2bryan

I take the drum out, I find it quicker and less stressful that way 😆

😆 Fantastic! 😆
At least it wasn’t a washer/dryer seal. I’ve still got the scars from one of them.
I don’t think there really is an easy way. If it was easy, you would’nt be able the charge the customer extra labour for the lost blood.
We’re one of the only companies in our area that will do that job. Other companies palm them off to us. 😯

Not easy but done loads working for Zanussi, Loads of Fairy Liquidon the door seal put spring around top of door seal hold with one hand and then slide the other hand around the seal and be prepared to lose some skin from your fingers

Find these no problem but need the assistance of two paper tissues!
Place spring into seal at 12 oclock and wedge in place with tissue between seal and concrete, streach spring around seal to about 5 oclock and jam in second tissue.Fitting rest of spring then easy with two hands to streach it into place.July 3, 2005 at 3:08 pm #140041litlor

I use the two paper tissues to wipe the Fairy Liquid off my hands
The door seal retainer springs have always been the same on Zanussi machines the more you do the easier it gets the first one took me nearly 1 hour now can do the job in 10 mins.July 4, 2005 at 12:17 pm #140042andy2

Many of us will have had customers who have bought these seals and then spent three days trying to put them on. This is the job that is guaranteed to reduce a grown man to tears. They always have difficulty believing you when you tell them that you will come out and fit it, and then regard you as superhuman when you pop it on in ten minutes.
Its the washing up liquid that turns a virtually impossible job into an easy job. Re: the spring – the tissue is a good idea but small pieces of wood slightly tapered to jam between the spring and the block is better!

remember going to do a seal on Ariston 850xd years ago
customer spent 9 hours trying to fit
my time 2 mins 40 secs
customer could not believe but if he had not tried himself he would be thinking i was ripping him off with the price
as it happened like this he realised it was the skill and knowhow he was paying for
with all machines with garter springs
zanussi old hotpoints & even older english electric liberators for those of you that can remember etc fairy liquid and determintion is the only way

Zanussi FLS1225W is a right bitch to do otherwise 🙄

I’ve had many a customer phone up and say “i’ve got the door seal, how much will it cost to fit it, i’ve been tryng for over an hour”.
I with a smile on my face say “That’ll be £30 in total”
I have always used the same little tool, it comes under the “Really handy tools” catagory. it’s a little round bar about 9-10 mm wide and about 4cm long.
Tuck the spring in the door seal at about the 10 o clock position then push the little bar in straight between the block and the seal (it’s really tight and WILL NOT come out) you then have 2 hands free to feed the spring round the rest of the seal, one hand either side of the bar feeding away from it.
Remember to twist the spring round half a turn when your half way round to ensure it doesn’t try to twist back off the seal when you’ve left the house.
It’s a less than a minute job… GET YOURSELF a little bar !!!

I use a small 2-3 inch spring clamp available from B&Q. Holds the spring in place at the two o’clock position while you fight with the rest of it. A bit of washing up liquid helps.
Hold the door seal against the inner drum and turn the whole lot together if you need to turn the door seal after fitting.
The clamp is also brilliant as a third hand to help fit the seal to front panel retainer on whirlpool machines.
