Well i called Indesit again….lovely lady on the fone…upshot is thus;
Indesit are aware that certaion Hotpoint machines are affected by the Bosch circuit boards. However, they are NOT currently issuing a recall. What they are doing is offering a free inspection to anyone who asks for one, and fitting a new PCB to any machine which shows signs of PCB going wonky. What i really don’t understand is why -when the engineer is already on site- they don’t fit a new part as standard, ‘cos my understanding was that its the labour that costs the £££ not the part. And if i can buy the part for £35, i am guessing it would only cost the indesit group about a tenner? If i had known this, i would willingly have paid for a new board if they were able to fit it free.
Bosch, on the other hand, well as we know they are changing boards as standard, so the lady told me this morning. She said it was ‘precautionary’ and said the actual fire risk is minimal as most machines just stop working if the PCB fails. But she said she could see why its a worry.
I don’t think i want to pay the cost of parts & labour on a machine as old as mine, so i am thinking it’s time for a new dishwasher. Or am i over reacting?

PCB for that machine is listed by Indesit as costing £100. 😉

Well i’ll stand corrected then as one of the Bosch boards i saw on line was coming in at £35.
In light of that, there is no way i am paying to have this machine mended 🙁

I found what the £35 was…it was not a new part on the site i was looking at, it was a REPAIR service for faulty PCBs in white goods. Never heard of that before.

Bertie, don’t ponder or dither a moment longer. Get on to Indesit and take up their ‘free inspection’ offer.
Get a written report from them as to its condition. Notify your house insurance company too regarding your concerns. Cover all bases in other words then continue to use your dishwasher with caution if you must. 👿

Hi Martin!
Dither me not, ‘cos as i said, the Indesit man did come out to my machine and say it’s alright as the PCB showed no signs of a problem. It is the valued comments on here which followed which made me think that the inspection may not prove a thing. I can’t see me telling the household insurance company about it as i don’t want to give them any ammo should a fire occur (i.e. ‘you knew there was a problem). In the meantime, i am 99{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} sure now i will be buying a new dishwasher this week.

Martin…5 years in electrical retail and i never did hear a joke in that style before…..NOT! 🙂
Thanks, I saw a Meile G1022 in Currys for only £249.99. Its a showroom model SO THEY SAID, which if true, i will buy. I will not buy it if i have a sniff of an idea that it’s a returned or repaired item. I will buy a Bosch if not.

Just to add to this that we have a Hotpoint badged fully integrated dishwasher that I remember was stamped on the back as ‘made by Bosch’. Hotpoint model is BF71. We bought Hotpoint as we wanted a fully integrated machine with a timer and bizarelly Bosch didn’t offer one, even though they were building one for Hotpoint!
The date code is FD8004 which translates to April 2000 and so falls within the range Bosch are recalling.
I called Hotpoint and got the run-around and denials that others have said and they were particularly confused that they couldn’t find the BF71 model number on their system. Anyway, in the end talk of ‘fire’ seemed sufficient that they would send an engineer out and he arrived today as promised and on time.
He was baffled too – seemed unaware of the Bosch recall issue so called base and went through several levels of backup until he got to someone who knew what to do. Just the same experience as a previous poster, he took the control board out, decided it was fine, put it back and put the green spot on the inside of the door.

😕 The Hotpoint BF71 does not have a timer, it is a fully push button, electronically controlled machine. AFAIK, the pcb in this is not one of the ones subject to recall.
If you look very closely along the top, inner edge of the stainless steel door you should be able to see the original Bosch model number etched into the metal, not easy to see, you have to get it at the right angle.

Hmm…perhaps your definition is different to mine. It has a programmable delayed start which can be set for up to 23 hours. That’s a timer in my book.

A “timer” in our language is an electro-mechanical controller normally driven by an electrical coil known as a timer coil, essentially a glorified clockwork device.
An electronic controller is a whole different animal as it is microprocessor driven and does not rely on any mechanical element as such.
If it’s electronically controlled, it’s the latter and isn’t what we define as a timer.
A delay timer is a feature of an electronic timer normally, not usually that of an older electro-mechanical controller.
Where you would have found a delay timer in days of yore it was basically a clockwork countdown switch much as you used to see used on heaters and suchlike. If you see any sort of display or it doesn’t tick or click, it’s pretty much going to be electronic in some way.
Just so you may understand the way that we look at it and the terminology that we use.

Thanks to the information on this forum I was able to arrange a repair for our DWF30 machine, I thought I would add to the body of knowledge, hoping someone else will benefit.
My initial approach by phone failed; apparently the Customer Service Department isn’t the same as the Service department. People should approach the Customer Service Department to arrange an engineers visit. I was told that email addressed to TheServiceCentre@Indesit.com will reach the right peopleMarch 24, 2013 at 6:33 am #356976DWhr

There is a recall now

>As the leading white goods manufacturer, Hotpoint continually monitors
>the specification and performance of its products. Through this approach, we have identified that there is a low risk that modules fitted to a limited number of Hotpoint FDW20 / FDW60 / FDW65A dishwashers manufactured between June 2006 and March 2007 and sold in the United Kingdom may cause overheating and in rare cases a potential fire hazard. We have therefore decided to carry out a free of charge repair programme to replace the module in the dishwashers potentially affected.

Hope this help those who perhaps don’t get notifiedMarch 24, 2013 at 9:46 am #356977iadom

Strange, those machines have nothing to do with the Bosch produced machines that this thread is about, they are all post 2004 Indesit made machines. ❓
