Moderatorwhen you say you get 0 volts how are you measuring this
you should be on a resistance scale not volts

ParticipantI used the resistance setting and diode option on the multimeter… when testing the other diodes I get a reading only when the probes are connected one way… if I reverse them on the other diodes I get open circuit which I beleive is what I should get. When testing D7 no matter which way I connect the probes I get a 0.0000 reading not an OL (open circuit) reading on the meter.
If I set the meter to resistance buzzer for continuity testing then I get continuty and a buzz when the probes are connected to either side of D7.February 26, 2021 at 9:36 am #470346electrofix
Moderatorin which case i would say, change that and it should work

ParticipantThanks Dave, i’ve just ordered the diode and will post if it works.

ParticipantI originated this solution on an alternative website back in march 2019, since then other people have contributed to make the job as easy as possible, the problem affects a quite a few models and as yet I am not sure of the extent.. Yes you can put a 2A diode in, I used a STPS2h100, and its still working 2 years later. You cannot test D7 100{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} accurately as D6 affects the readings, If you cannot read the diode id then de-solder 1 leg and lift it. Then you can see the markings, it is also the easiest way to check this diode. To date this has fixed more than 45 machines and that is only those I know of. I have also been in touch with Beko and informed them of the problem. Their response was “congratulations on a quick and economical fix”. I wont post the website address, but please give credit where due.

ModeratorNo one is taking credit away from anyone and from your text you are assuming someone has taken your idea and put it forward as their own
It is also possible other people have come to the same conclusion either before or after you made your discovery. I have had this fault on lots of different machine the latest of which was a Sharp microwave the worked ok but no display. Turned out the shottski diode for the plasma display

ParticipantI’m happy to report that D7 was the culprit. I’ve replaced it today and my washer/dryer is now working again.
A big thanks to all of the people who came up with the fix and all who have contributed to this post. My model (WDX8543130W) was not in the title of the post and was found several posts further down.
I can’t beleive that a little time and a £0.20 part fixed the issue so quickly.

Moderatori just think its sad that manufacturers use componenents that are only just up to the job
glad you sorted it

ParticipantI can’t believe this is a so common problem and Beko is just saying “well done for finding a cheap fix”… Woke up this morning with the washing machine partially full of water and no powering. Only had it for 32 months.
Anyway, I ordered the suggested diode and hoping I can change it myself… not an expert but not completely useless either… wish me luck!
Thanks,
David

Moderatorwelcome to the world of mass production and “it will just do” component selection
dont know if Beko have uprated it on later machines but have had this fault on quite a lot of appliances including a treadmill

ParticipantYeah, disappointing… I’ve had to recently replaced an oven and an induction hob they packed up after 14 and 16 months respectively of purchase and now the washing machine… I’ve only lived in this property for 3 years.
I hope I can fix the washing machine if it’s the same issue. How would you rate this repair in difficulty from 0 to 10? I know how to desolder and solder and did some easy stuff in my younger age but I wouldn’t call myself an expert.

Moderatoron the soldering stakes this is quite basic
the diode has a stripe on it so make sure its the correct way round
as for the other appliances i would have tackled the retailer or you should have bought Beko as their integrated units have a 2 year guarentee

ParticipantThanks Dave, yes I had a long battle with the retailer and got a replacements for oven and hob at a discounted price. Maybe not the best deal but I was getting fed up of the lengthy conversations going on, trading standards slow and not very helpful and not being able to cook a hot meal (other than microwave meals). I learnt the lesson and got the new appliances on a 2 year warranty but then the Beko washing machine was 24 months warranty and it’s broken 32 months in… seems to me the manufacturers build them on purpose with components life expectancy just above the warranty period!

Moderatorone of the problems is customer want cheaper and cheaper but everyone forgets the costs involved
say you buy a machine for 400, in that is Vat at 20{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} that means you actually paid £333. Then the retailer has to make a profit. then its got to be shipped half way round the world. the manufacturer has to employ people to make it and provide buildings and equipment. there has to be enough to research the next models. you can imagine how little is left to buy materials so you cannot complain if a component fails as they have taken it as low as they can to save tenths of a penny

ParticipantSo this is my PCB which means I can’t easily get to D7. I can’t even see it!
https://photos.app.goo.gl/ftbdnFdF1zQ58cn67
https://photos.app.goo.gl/Z2YSBQ5AAibjwg6g8I’ve seen a new PCB on ebay for £40 but the seller negative reviews are putting me off.
Others are for £50 to £90. Any advice to a website or seller I can trust?
Thanks,
David
