ParticipantThis morning I had a call from one of my customers to ask if I would go and check his Bosch d/w as his model is one of the recall models.
I pointed out it was up to Bosch to do the inspection which he already knew. Apparently he rang Bosch to book a call but they would not come out to it, the reason, they could not clarify or find his address on the computer. He gave them full postal address including postcode. This chap lives in a small village of about 20 houses, so not really an issue of being able to find it. Bosch still refusing to call.
I advised the usual, Trading Standards, media etc.
Anyone else come across this?Last week I rang Bosch to report another customers d/w that although was not on Boshes recall list, had had a fire on the circuit board, again they refused to come out to it as the “computer says no” unless customer paid for the visit. Worryingly they advised the customer not to try and use the appliance as it could be unsafe although they were adamant that they have all the models covered on the recall and this model no of d/w should not be an issue.

Ah! But who are “them?” BSH or the Repairaction national agents?
Whoever them is then perhaps someone should intervene and find out why this is happening? Also the national press would love to hear about it being as the subject is very topical at present.

Who are they Martin?

I think that those that contact the ‘Repairaction’ website are referred straight to the agents that covers the modification nationwide as BSH themselves aren’t involved. Not sure who the agent is mind you but I think someone mentioned DSG in another thread…..dunno though?

Well I meant the actual phone number (0800 0234881) that those that go to the repairaction web site have to then contact. Where does that number go….I suspect direct to the agents?

Can you please elaborate more on that statement Ken? Do you concur with what Mal has told us, that simply because someone’s Postcode doesn’t come up on (what we now believe to be?) BSH’s computer system then they flatly refuse to call out and honour their commitment?

I’ve no idea what Bosch are doing.
I have had a number of people asking about it who appear to have spoken to Bosch to be told that their machine isn’t affected but they are still concerned as well as a number from France and so on, where Bosch France (or wherever) don’t seem to want to know. Apparently it only affects dishwashers sold in the UK due to the UK mains, so I’m told.
We’ve also had many calls on the phone about it with people insisting that we are Bosch, one even claimed that we said we were Bosch on the phone menu which is plainly ludicrous but it demonstrates how people fail to both read and listen at times. Given I’m not privy to every call I’ve no idea what people have been telling us nor do I really care so long as they toodle off and call Bosch rather than bugging us with a problem that has sod all to do with UKW.
But, to be fair, I’ve not looked into it as I don’t really have the time or inclination to do so and, it isn’t really my problem to deal with.
Bosch have given me no guidance whatsoever, I only report what information I get.
In remote areas they will use agents at times but, in the main, it would be a Bosch employed engineer that called I’d guess. But again, I really don’t know.
What their policy is in respect to what they will call and check or not, you’d have to ask Bosch as I wouldn’t know and cannot say for sure what they’re doing or not.

Then from what you say it’s gratifying enough to know that the good people of south west Scotland are at least aware of the recall. And that apathy isn’t entirely an epidemic when it comes to people’s concerns. It’s just too bad that the lines on communication between the people and those that can resolve their problem aren’t so easily defined?

Many manufacturers take the stance; If you can’t be bothered to register your appliance details and address, they have no obligation… Nevertheless, if you can produce a receipt for the item and it is within a warranty period then you must then register before their obligation commences.

I think you have missed the point here George? Scenario = Bosch subject to recall but Bosch won’t call due to not having Postcode listed on their system and nothing to do with registration. Computer says don’t know where you are!
Though the on-line firm even asks for directions!…….
The recall covers the appliance NOT the current owner nor takes into account of whether the owner has moved since registering the product.March 21, 2013 at 5:11 pm #392454lee8

Personally if I had an appliance under this recall, I’d simply bin it and go and by a new one, not worth the hassle.
When I was with BSH we where replacing these PCB’ s daily and many required a further one within 12 months.
I know BSH, they’ll be doing just enough to satisfy the law, the rest they’ll hope people will just go and replace the product.

You won’t be too surprised to know that I’ve put that little snippet of info into my bin marked ‘Total Bol****s’.
