Just so you know, I have used mobile terminals for several years from several different providers and constantly suffer all the above problems, ie no or broken connections, the odd update sometimes helps but soon slip back into problems, really anoying after a quick job which takes longer to get paid than the job itself took.
As someone else pointed out, shut down the machine after each transaction unless you are taking lots of transactions from the same place. Its a pain to re boot everytime (and they take ages to “install modem”, etc makes me wonder why the modem cannot be constantly “installed” but I guess there is some techno reason for it.)
Despite claims of “multi sim” they alway have a preffered network and someone told me that it needs to connect to that network first just to see how poor the signal is before trying elsewhere, go figure that one out!
You can manually connect to a certain network but its a pain and suddenly cheques seem like a great idea.
Its not all bad, on most occasions it will connect quickly and efficently. Seems though if there is a dodgy signal on the first job of the day then thats it, it will be a pain all day long.
Cannot live without them thoughAugust 22, 2012 at 7:03 pm #361160Alanj

A little tip for when you start up your terminal. To save on all those wasted pieces of till roll when the machine starts up just click open the tillroll door so its just off the latch and it will start without spitting out the start up time etc.Once you hear the printing noise close the door again. 😀

I have to say I am not happy with this “deal” we are supposed to have for a card terminal.
When I first read about it on here it sounded good:
£22.00 a month, no minimum service charge, PCI non compliance free for a year then £17per year.
I was asked to sign the application forms and send them back to John Morris and he would sort out the rest. I have not seen a rep for Payzone.
The deal I have is tied in for 5 years, £22.00 + vat, £10/Month minimum service charge, £17.00/month PCI non compliance fee.
I called Payzone yesterday to complain and am still waiting to hear back from them 😥 AlanI have to say this was the impression I had as well and then I noticed another £10 being taken out each month by the merchant (Elavon) and have just paid the PCI compliance fee of £17. I’m assuming (hoping!) the £17 is for the year only and not monthly. 😯
I also had problems with transactions going through even though the signal is strong. Wasn’t even able to do customer not present until I contacted Payzone who did an upgrade which sorted it. I have to say since the upgrade the transactions seem to be going through better.
I agree with AlanJ in that if you only switch the terminal on when you need it then it seems to work more efficiently. The battery lasts quite a long time this way to. On my terminal the battery level seems to bear no relation to it’s ability to process a transaction. 😕
Overall though I have to say it has been very beneficial and is great when a customer pays over the phone. Most customers have been really pleased (and relieved!) that they are able to pay by card. 😀
Chris
Just as an update it would appear I am paying £26.39 per month to Payzone (Alphyra UK)and £10 minimum service charge AND £17 PER MONTH for the PCI Non Compliance to Elavon which I was under the impression was FREE for the first year and I also had the impression it was £17 for the year.
This makes the minimum figure £53.39 per month 😯Chris

How does that compare to you guys who have card payment facilities with other providers?

Hi Poppins, the PCI payment should be free for first year. I’ve had this problem too, had two £17 payments taken from my account. It seems someone at Payzone or Elavon is not doing their job properly. Get in touch with your salesman and get him to sort it out and refund the charges taken. You may have to fill in another PCI form. 🙁
I also have concerns about what happens after first year. I was under the impression it was £17 a year after first year, but when they are charging £17 / month just now, I wonder? I have e-mailed and phoned my rep John Morris but as yet he has not replied.
If anyone in WTA knows what the actual rates are it would be helpful to post them here properly for everyone’s information.

Sorry guys been away, I have chased again this morning so will let you know when I have something to report.
In the mean time I suggest you send an email to John Morris as I have no other contact yet, with your wta number and company info stating the error on the pci rate and request a refund.

I have emailed Elavon today with my own PCI fees complaint!
Will let you know if I get a responseI have just pulled out my paper work and have come across the welcome letter!!
Probably like many did not read the important information about PCI DSS compliance! :rolls:
The need to register or you end up being charged for non compliance fees 😡I think like the rest of you we were told it would all be handled by John all we had to do was sign away and sit back and they will do the rest.
I did just try and register but it wont accept the name, then I tried to go through and upload a PCI certificate that I had previously done with another merchant, that did not work either! Sure we will get it sorted 😉
