ModeratorPlaying around as you do I visited the ISE forum this thread https://www.ukwhitegoods.co.uk/forums/showthread.php/90013-PCB-required-for-ISE-1607W?p=444591#post444591
As per screenshot I can edit post and also do most of the other mod tools as previous.
It might help you Ken setting these permissions to the other forums 😉

KeymasterYou need to subscribe on this one, privacy thing and so we don’t get accused of spamming plus… GDPR.

Checked at the top of the page and the only option in Thread Tools is ‘Unsubscribe’ 😉 Didn’t get notification of your post either. Also checked my list of post subscriptions in my profile and it lists this one and the ‘Forum Upgrade’ thread.

As you may remember I did mention years ago that another forum I frequent has used VB for 20 years or more, I am apparently subscribed to this thread but poking around in my profile settings I had to alter the notifications settings, they where set to ‘Through my control panel’, I changed it to the ones in this pic, also noticed some links to Moderation actions at the bottom of the screen .;)
Actually changed it to instantly via email, weird why the screen dump shows ‘Weekly using email’ ???September 30, 2018 at 8:29 pm #432552iadom
ModeratorHave also noticed when checking my private messages that dozens of messages I deleted months and even years ago have re appeared?

KeymasterYeah, I do remember Jim and I’ve had the license for this since about 2009 or something, just never got round to doing it.
Aside from the GDPR stuff, there are loads of reasons to move to VB.
Far better search, something often bemoaned by many.
Far better control over options and, a lot more of them.
Flood control for PMs so they can’t be abused by spammers and people like the banned user whose name shall not be spoken.
More design control.
Themes.
Far, far faster
Better moderation control and tools.
That’s just the stuff I can think on off the cuff, there’s more.
I dunno what’s up with the old PMs but I had an issue with them that I need to dig into further but a lot of that sort of stuff you don’t find out about till you use the thing in anger as it were. Then you just sort it as you go, eventually, it comes right.
Smilies need fixed as well.

ModeratorStill not getting email notification of your last post. Just checked on Cableforum and they are using VB version 3.8.11. Always seems to work very smoothly, never see spam messages, click on a persons username to send PM’s etc.
One other thing that doesn’t seem to be working correctly. If I click on the +Reply to Thread link directly under the far left of the last post nothing happens, even though I have altered my settings profile to use full WYSIWYG editor. There is only this ‘Quick Reply’ box available unless you select Go Advanced at the bottom right which then opens the full box of tricks, but above all the posts on the page and not underneath them as it should when you select the +Reply to Thread button.
Also the link at the top of the page entitled Private Messages seems to be a link to full user CP.

KeymasterYeah, I know there are a few things that aren’t quite right, I’ve seen a few myself but I’m loathe to do much about them right now as we’re just about to make the jump to VB5 so, two iterations and a number of years in front if VB3 and I’d imagine there will be some significant differences.
What Sudeep and I discussed at length the other day and again earlier today is that there’s little point in putting the advanced scripts and the funky stuff in now nor for that matter, fixing a lot of the minor bugs we see.
What we arrived at was, in my view the logical conclusion being that, get it to a stable and current version then do the work as we have no idea what we’d lose on a version jump, or gain really.
We also are aware there’s been some slagging off of VB5 but then, there was of VB4 and just about any other forum platform as none are perfect from what I could tell. It’s a case of getting the best you can really for the intended purpose.
Given the volume of traffic, how the forums are used, the exposure and so forth we decided this was the best of the bunch… probably.
In VB5 a lot of the shortcuts have either been or can be made more obvious and it’s more intuitive, in my opinion with a cleaner design ethic so I’m hoping that will be better for all.
The trouble was that to migrate from PHPBB3 we have to do that to VB4, we couldn’t go to VB5. So, there was no other option than to stop here for a day or two then move on. Plus we had to upgrade the server also to meet the stuff we need for VB5, the main site and the store as that all needed an upgrade to the underlying PHP version, no choice.
All this sorta forced us down this path, whether we liked it, wanted to or not… there was no other way and most assuredly none that was any less of an impact. And, this was planned to the Nth degree with every which way to do it all looked into.
It’ll come right, promise.
