The whole ISE project was a comedy from start to finish. A tragedy though for the many who bought into the so called ‘ethos’. It started with a lie, a rebadged Arcelik/Beko that, we were assured, had larger more substantial drum bearings and was built to their exacting specifications. Independents were drawn into the concept with the generous service pay outs and sales mark ups.
To the Swedish tank with its 10 year guarantee. Grossly overpriced but sold on the strength that it could easily last 20 years. Comparisons were drawn that if you divide the initial cost by the projected lifespan then you couldn’t buy any other washing machine for such a little investment. Independents once again bought into the scheme.
Fast forward to 2010 and observers could see the wheels were buckling under the weight of the many negative vibes posted in the trade and public forums. Complaints were piling in and emails disappearing into the ether were commonplace. Visions of ISE HQ Service Desk collapsing under the weight of the IN Tray were all too apparent.
4 years on and the dream has died though the comedy continues. ISE HQ has closed and it’s staff dispersed toward an uncertain future. It was they and only they that knew how it worked. That knew what went wrong and the truth behind the insurance funding. The directors of UKW Ltd were totally oblivious to what had happened. They’d trusted the staff of ISE to manage the company and when the money all ran out took it upon themselves to fire the staff and lock the door. Comedy or tragedy? That depends on your viewpoint I suppose.
The meeting at Coventry could be interesting and the ISE story continues.

So do you think the quality if the ISE 10 machine has been misrepresented in a similar way that the warranty was?
Was kind of clinging on to the fact that the machine was a good ‘un to not feel utterly ripped off!

Let’s just say retail prices don’t always reflect quality. Much the same way Rolls Royce fitted Ford Transit parts and some Ferrari’s worth millions today have Fiat parts.
Let’s simplify it, you pay £400 a unit for 100 units and sell it for say £800. Someone buys 1,000 units and they may get it for £300 a unit. They may sell it at £825.00 a unit.
You sell it at a price that covers your costs and gives you a reasonable profit. It has absolutely nothing to do with quality, that’s a PR issue.
Commonsense really, but few grasp the reality of business and survive long enough.January 10, 2015 at 2:57 pm #324018iadom

Lee8,
Completely get what you are saying and I’m not so naive (or at least I used to think so!) to believe that products can’t be hyped by marketing to a false value.
Just this machine was said to be very different, quality components and a design that aided repair rather than redundancy were central tenets of it.
My question, to the trade I suppose (although it’s fairly quiet from the trade , on this public forum), is were the machines all they were cracked up to be? Are they just another cheapo machine which mugs fell for?
The accusation would be this is paranoia or lack of trust, but then I’d refer people back to the warranty promises!
I’m really keen to know if the machine really is better made than others in the market or if this was all just hype?

At this time of year you have to think of someone else who tried to do good and was crucified for it.
ISE tried to offer an alternative to the big manufacturers and it failed now some people are looking for someone to crucify for it.
It just goes to show why some people will walk past someone collapsed on the floor or someone being attacked and not get involved as someone will always try to crucify them if there help goes wrong.
I am nothing to do with ISE but this is my observations of this Topic.
I think it is time to move on as bitterness can eat you up.

The “quality” was never in doubt, a Swedish tank of a machine. ISE Ltd by contrast had their doubters and the rest, as they say, is history.
My sympathy is toward Kenneth Watt who’s trading record has seen yet another company fail. Let’s hope 2015 will turn his bad luck around. 😀

Using Jesus as an example is probably spot on. I’m mean he was convinced he was doing good when in fact his religion has killed far more than had it he not bothered and kept those voices in his head to himself. I’m sure he’d have made a better carpenter than holy saviour of mankind.
Maybe Ken is better of not trying to save our industry.January 10, 2015 at 5:09 pm #324023iadom

So you knew right from the start that the ISE project was flawed and therefore had nothing whatsoever to do with them?

So you didn’t have an early ISE on test, didn’t help to re write the user manual, didn’t get paid by K Heath for this help and input? Before you answer that, do you still have access to THIS forum? I do and it makes your statement above duplicitous at the very least.:)
