KeymasterHi Guys,
At midnight today the site will be shutdown and will be offline for at least 3 hours while we perform a major upgrade.
We’ve been on the same platform now for almost seven years and, frankly we fancied doing a bit of redecorating. But, more than that it allows us to access a ton of new features and to develop a number of things that we want the site to be able to do which is not possible on the current platform.
EXPECT SOME FEATURES NOT TO WORK!!
There will be some things that will no longer function, repairs@ being the main one that will affect you guys. It will be down indefinitely while we completely redesign the module for the new platform.
For now I can’t get into what it will do when it comes back online in its new format but, let’s just say it will be a little better and more expanded.
The forums will be back online in the wee small hours of tomorrow morning with the rest of the site and, again, it’s a completely new platform with a ton of new features.
FORUMS WILL BE INDEXING FOR AT LEAST 24 HOURS
Due to the huge volume of information on here the forums will be indexing for 24 hours. That means that not all posts will appear, appear how they should in the forums when you pop in.
This is completely unavoidable and a pain that we all have to live with for a a day or so.
However, here’s the good news…
The search function will be so, so much better and will actually work once that completes, that’s why it all has to be indexed.
Other than that, it’s all just peachy. :rolls:
There will be other issues but, as some people who have had a sneak peek at the new site will tell you, it should all be worth it in the end.
If you’ve got questions, you have until midnight to ask me.

And… we’re back online! 😀
The site may run a little slowly as your browsers recache a lot of it and we run the scripts etc. in the background but it will speed up. It’ll speed up even more when I get my new server in a bit.
But I hope you like the new paint job.
There’s now a LOT of work for me to do over the next few weeks on all this.

The site looks good but I don’t like the orange font, hard on the eyes on a white background.
Anyone else not like the orange on white it or is it just me?March 11, 2011 at 7:23 am #346793kwatt

I know it’s slow and I’m trying to speed it up but there’s a big bunch of stuff going on behind the scenes hogging the server as it all re-indexes and re-synchs.
The orange is a template thing, I’ll perhaps look at stuff like that later but for now I’m more concerned about making it all work. 😉
Basically any clickable link will come up in orange so it’s clear that it’s a clickable link.

I tell you what Mr Watt, it’s already a vast improvement on the previous platform. That ‘7 year itch’ it suffered from has paid off big time. I’ve even managed to edit my avatar at long last. And at my age little things mean such a lot let me tell you! :rotl:
Carry on the good work!

One small point, forum announcements are now separated by a nice orange line but the stickies are less obvious making it harder to spot the last new post in the forum.
I can see the different symbols but it doesn’t jump out at you like the old one did.

Yes, sore point for me as well as I don’t think it’s clear enough either.
It will get fixed once I get a nice lady I know to make me some icons. 😉
The problem is of course that most things don’t actually come to light until you start using them, especially when there’s so much on this site. Just makes it hard to see the wood for the trees at times.

I could compile a ‘to do’ list for you but I’m guessing it is dozens of pages long already. 😉
I can’t see any obvious links to ISE, I’m sure it was on the preview, or was I mistaken. ❓

I’m well impressed. And once again it shows what massive commitment you have to the White Goods trade.
Congratulations to all involved. 😀
