ParticipantOK so we’ve done a deal on Tools, Workwear, Postal Charges, Vans and even Debt Collection since the UKW Subscriber scheme was implemented. The membership represents the true and supportive nucleus towards UKW and all it stands for. Those that show willing to donate a small amount each year into the fund are therefore regarded with mutual respect towards one another for the overall good of the trade. And the first to be given ‘first shout’ on any deals and services that the future may hold.
But what of that future as far as the use of these funds in concerned?
We all have made individual deals on vans, tools, stationery, insurance, workwear and such like without the need to subscribe to a fund like this. So what’s the big deal here? Where and how shall we best make use of the kitty?
Firstly I believe we still have to pursue the ‘Technical Information’ issue further and with more commitment. Copyright is a major stumbling block I know and I was hoping to get some help from a Copyright Lawyer in New York over this (as Ken will confirm) but that has fallen by the wayside as the guy so far hasn’t replied to the last couple of emails I sent. (Ken and I did him a favour once and it seems he does not reciprocate 🙁 ) Nevertheless, we still are on the case as it were to see this problem through.
If only we could buy (for example) one Indesit CD Rom and share the user licences between each subscriber under the UKW limited company eh?
AGORA ??…..now what happened on that I wonder???
The Debt Collection thing was a bit of a dissappointment for me personally as I was hoping we could do a similar UKW ltd ‘One fee and all jump in’ but that too was not possible.
Legal Representation? well worth a gander if Ken knows any Scotland based company worth contacting?
Rainy Day Fund?…that met with some disdain in the past, so I guess thats a no go?
…anyway, that’s all I can come up with right now but food for thought from you guys maybe?
Lots of question marks in my post I know and you may have some bright answers 😀

How about getting sample contracts from WP’s and having them checked by a solicitor for unfair and restrictive clauses, so instead of just reading about what has happened to others we could make a informed judgement on whether the contract is fair and above board.

Will that be enough to buy a new one ready for the January influx? 💡

KeymasterYes it’s enough, whether everything could be in place and the site transferred to a new home in time is up for debate.

Good, then I vote we use the funds on this project
We happy bunch of subscribers are all too aware what UKW has given to the trade and the many benefits we trade members have derived from its success. So why don’t we at least contribute our funds to this worthy cause by way of a thank you to Ken and the lads, eh guys?
The whole UKW thing was put together on a shoestring budget by a stalwart group of individuals whose only concern was to unite the trade as a whole into one big voice. To stand up and be counted by those that would otherwise do us and our trade no good whatsoever.
UKW was born out of all this and in spite of several hundreds of hours sleepless nights by Ken & Co, the show is well and truly on the road to success. Furthermore it was all done by them, for us, for nowt !!
Seems like we owe them a great deal, so let us at least say a big thanks by contributing to a brand new server that will make this whole thing soar to even greater heights in 2006. 😀
Any objections?

‘Cos polls for the most part drive me up them, half the time very little information can be gained from a bl**dy poll 👿
Far better people voice their opinions directly especially on such in all important subject. 🙂
Do you not agree Richard? What are your thoughts on the matter?

Yes I’m up for it.
When it all then comes to fruition, we need to make it public what has been done regards the server and speed, but above all to tell them how it was funded.
That is the carrot, then comes the stick, just make it clear that with more funding, there will be more benefits. However, it is an investment, as some by get fed up of the timing out; and if it is their first casual visit, they may never come back to the site. You need to speculate to accumulate.
Yes I know the “fly-by-nights” and casual passers by will benefit, but they are generally just as described and not committed enough to keep up with the site, let alone contribute or get rewards.
Put me as a yes, unless someone can come up with a real blinder with what else to spend it on.

I was not to sure about this server idea and proposed to Ken the other day that we would be better of giving the subs money to charity.
Just read Alex’s post and see the light now
Go for itJohn

You are correct as usual Martin, polls do have a way of getting nowhere very quickly, it seems that the server idea is the best one but how are you going to move forward with it? Because you’ll wait forever for the members to join the forum and say yes or no, I mean no disrespect to anyone but its nearly all mods and admin who have had there say (not that there is anything wrong with that but I’m sure you know what I mean)
How about a bulk mail? Or maybe a post in the general forum with a link to here; run for say 2weeks? At least then no one could say they didn’t know or wasn’t informed and you could then get on with it and hopefully cure these site probs once and for all 😀
