Ken is planning to put together a summary of the costings for this project for us to agree on and get into action hopefully (assuming you all agree that is?)
Once we get an outline of that, I shall knock on a few doors (PM other subscribers that is) and see where we go from here 🙂

Tony, Fred Karno’s Circus existed at the turn of last century, his reputation went with him and today he is always associated with anything that is CHAOTIC….hence my earlier reference 😕

KeymasterSo, are we going anywhere with this then?
The site getting absolutely hammered this evening brought it back to mind. 😕

KeymasterSince it’s in here…
We just said that we’d get on with it regardless of the outcome here. We decided that we have more uses for a dedicated webserver.
So it was a case of, bollocks to it and telephone call made, plan in action. 😉
Anyone fancy having their website hosted with UKW as we will soon be able to offer that service?

We being UKW Ltd I guess?
So you don’t need the Subscribers fund in this regard then?

Looking through Ebay just now and noticed that there is a company selling ID card printers the kind that prints directly on to pvc card. It got me thinking so I did a bit of a trawl and find that a printer that prints colour onto PVC cards can be bought for about a grand.
Professional ID cards are probably to expensive for all of us due to the quantities we require but if subs money was used?
Would this be a good way of spending some of the subs funds?

This sounds like a very good idea to me ,I am being asked more & More for ID I normally use my Driving licence as it has photo ID on it but’s its with DVLA at the mo ( thats another story) ,So count me in Perhaps David could hold a database of manufacturers logo’s so you just ask for a card with all the logos of the companies you work for on an official basis ,Plus of course the
ukw logo loud and proud

KeymasterThere’s no technical issue with doing this as far as I’m concerned and yes, it is a good idea IMO.

I had difficulty accessing RAF Odiham and RMA Sandhurst due to increased security measures in place since 9/11. Queueing up at the Guard Room with others wanting access, they would only accept company letterheads and/or Driving Licences for ID accompanied with confirmation of an Internal Contact. I knocked up my own ‘Photo ID Card’ on my PC and put it in a plastic credit card wallet and that was good enough for them and there it sits in my wallet in case I get another call at those 2 establishments.
Outside of those 2 examples where a bodged up card worked for me, I have never ever been asked by anyone in all my 40 years in the trade, to show my ID. 🙄
If you want to spend a few quid on cards for your engineers though why not try here:-

I see where you’re coming from Martin and we’ve not been asked for ID on too many occasions either, but it is a rising problem that I can see getting worse in the future. And it’s also about a professional appearance to some degree I should imagine.
I have always and will always maintain that turning out reasonably smart in some form of workwear that looks neat and tidy with a clean van and looking the part is half the battle with the customer. Whether or not you know what you’re doing falls second to whether you look as if you know what you’re doing and that you belong in the position.
Just look at some manufacturers service and the likes of BG, the first thing you get is clothing and an ID card. 😉
We have been asked for ID, usually the guys will use their CORGI cards as they are “official”, especially from elderly customers. I see no harm in that, in fact I applaud people for having the nonce to ask.

Paying the subs money today brought this thread back into the memory banks. We have not had any discussion in here for a while on what to use the subs money for and apart from the new server have not spent any since we started.
My two favourites on how to spend the money were to buy a laminate printer so we can do van/shop graphics etc or to buy a ID card printer and have professional cards made.So what I propose is that we all chip in with an idea that the funds can be used for and list all the nominated items
The members in here can then vote for their top 3 ideas and the item with the most votes will be accepted.
One of the ideas could be to spend nowt at the moment!!
