Not at all Richard, the matter is only for subscribers to decide what best to do with their fund (as it stands at the moment that is). Therefore we need only ask each and every subscriber and that can be done via a PM. The vote must be pretty much unanimous though so any objections will be treated with the greatest respect and consideration. That process should not take long at all. 🙂
Meanwhile I need to ask Ken just two things to get this thing rolling:-
1) We need costings on such an investment to be sorted and made available?
2) Can you email the full list of subscribers that I may PM an agreeable questionaire to put to each member please.
Further comments gentlemen please? 🙂

For what my opinion is worth, i’d say get a server.
Will it really dent the fund that much?
I have no idea on prices.
Or get the magnificent sponcers to buy one 😈
Saying that, I haven’t had the time to tackle the ‘radical thought’ thread, and I don’t know if there’s better ideas in there. Gonna have a read now 🙄

K, my thought is, let the pot grow. Then there’s always some cash for if it hit the fan.
Just a thought on getting more subscribers…
I’d move the subscribers forum to the top of the forums page. It isn’t noticable enough near the bottom.
Then when there’s a flurry of activity, unsubscribed people will get curious when they see the orange ‘new post’ symbol.
That’s what I’m like with the mod forum…
“What are they saying in there?”

I agree GB, but perhaps not right at the top 🙂
I did suggest this a while ago after someone else suggested it to me 😉
I think we should go with the server though to be honest, and yes, I am a subscriber as well 8)

I do hope this topic remains on track and not turn into Fred Karno’s Circus like so many other threads before it? 👿

If a server will speed things up I’m all for it. Couple of weeks ago was the worst I’ve ever known it for dead spaceand nothing moving. When (as I do a lot) I’m nipping in the office to check emails and whats the latest on UKW, if it’s slow I give up.
😳 Sorry Martin, but who the ****s Fred Karno???????

Yes, it would speed things up is the short answer.
Li mailed me last night and they have been doing extensive work on this server (the one we’re on) to speed things up the last few days and, to be fair, I have noticed an increase in performance.
The new server, which blew up on test 🙁 is due to go online soon, but again it has to be tested as we don’t exactly want it to be blowing up with the live site on it.
Our own server would mean that it was only us using the database, so a hugely reduced load as well as a massive leap in processor speed and power, it would be akin to comparing a Trabant to a Ferarri in performance terms.
K.
