Hi again, sorry I haven’t posted back, but something Brodders said, about the flashing display possibly causing problems on the rear board.
I messed about with the temperature settings, finding one that didn’t cause the flashing on the display.Since I did this, the unit has been operating as it should do.
Although I am of the ‘if it ain’t broke’ mindset, I will change the relays, and the last capacitor on the rear board.
I am simply enjoying having a product that after so long, is finally operating as it should have done all along.
Thanks again John,

Thank you Shaun, you’re welcome. 🙂
Did you change the caps on the front module?

Nope, I haven’t changed anything on it since I bought the relays as per your advice.
All I did was find a setting that stopped the front display from flashing.
Since then (2 weeks now) all has been well.
I have started to hear a noise from the freezer, a sort of clunking noise that sounds to me as if the defrost cycle is now working again, and the fridge is maintaining temperature.October 25, 2009 at 7:39 am #142355silver7

Hi Silver7
In all probability, the components on your rear module have failed.
Depending on the age of your unit, it will either be the usual capacitor failure or a relay or both.
Hope this helpsOctober 25, 2009 at 9:26 am #142357silver7

Ok, today I received the front and rear fridge module that had worked erratically before the replacement of various capacitors.
I can confirm – fitting the incorrect type of capacitor will kill your modules, if not now then later.
A dead rear module will cause the front ice maker module relay to click too.
Fortunately the above modules are in good hands lol 🙂
Kwatt has put a very handy kit together with instructions for the rear module.
I fully endorse this kit and point out; it includes an additional capacitor ‘C2’ for installation on boards manufactured with the ‘white’ capacitors. Today I have established it will also replace the 10 volt on later boards.
Some of you have asked about the Fridge and Freezer temperature sensors especially when the motorised baffle seems to be stuck open or shut.
For confirmation
The Freezer temp sensor will measure approximately 23’000 ohms (23k)at -20° degrees.
The Fridge temp sensor will measure approximately 6’000 ohms at 4° degrees
These measurements can only be tested with the sensors unplugged from the rear module and the fridge freezer UNPLUGGED from the mains (electricity) supply.
Hope this helps.October 30, 2009 at 3:27 pm #142360sanfridge
ParticipantI would like to say a big thank you to John for all the help and advice in and out of this forum, just got one question in one of the posts you mention that if one wishes to give the defrost relay and ice maker relay a new lease of life, get two 121-8837 relays, there are 3 of these relays in a row which 2 do I need to change.

Hi Billy,
Where did you purchase the rear module?
There are various levels of software and, the rear module must be the same as the front.
Is it correct?Your fridge freezer may have a fault not associated with the rear module.
Does the fan next to the compressor run?

It did need the rear module cos originally it was fixed by replacing the caps . also the new board cured other problems like no water and lettres on digital display . Is it worth mentioning that the old board had small carbon burns on the back ? Oh and the fans working .

Hi Billy,
So I have established you have the correct board.
If the fan is running, the compressor should be running.
If the compressor is running and you have a freezer alarm, your system may be out of gas or the compressor may be shot.
Or, you may have a simple defrost ‘heater’ fault
Does the compressor sound like it’s on?
It should be warm or even hot to touch.
There are two pipes on the right side of the compressor; the thin one should be warm / hot.
The larger one should be cooler.
We need to establish if the system is freezing the evaporator as it should do.
If the compressor is not running, report back.
Hope this helps -
