Down this end of the woods there is heaps of work
There is an absolutely massive shortage of capable whitegoods repairers.
Manufacturers are desparate for techs to do Warranty
Mind you some pay better than others

Would they also pay my overland fare? As I don’t like flying and I’d like to take a couple of years to enjoy the journey.
If yes to all above questions, I can start travelling within a month.

Well the way I see it guys is you’ve got to get more into sales. I certainly have and I think it’s the way to go. I buy off a couple of wholesalers one being Portway Domestic Appliances.
The fact that you’re in the house leads you to a sale. There will always be the blocked pumps, door seal changes, recon pcb repairs, but the bearing changes etc aren’t going to be worth it. Sell them a good quality new machine, and 7 to 10 years down the line they buy another one off you.
This is already happening to me. Go for it guys! Wheel in the new ones, you can do it!June 6, 2010 at 9:19 pm #372328iadom

No trade certificate, no recognised qualification, therefore our “trade” doesn’t technically exist. But chainsaw mechanic and painter are……. :hmm:
We were going to go about 6 years ago but eventually decided against it as most of our family are here. Too many people lie on their applications; I know of 2 couples who fabricated all their own proof of skills and headed letters of recommendation but managed to wing it. They really struggled to start with. But you are only fooling yourself if you get there and can’t get work with the skills you have. You’ll only just get enough points if you are under 39 and can tick all the boxes.
Australia ought to adopt the British immigration policy that just checks for a pulse…….. :rolls:Steve.

Please don’t quote me out of context! :lesson:My point was there’s no REPEAT sales.

KeymasterWell, there is… eventually. 😉
ISE10 more than the others as people often think that they’re buying a cut down ISE10 when they buy a 5 or whatever. :rolls:
But what we do find with the 10’s is that there are other sales on recommendation… a little thing that many of our businesses thrive on.

On yer bike Mike it will likely take you best part of that I would imagine. Peddling from Penzance to Dover about 270 miles, give or take? Then a short ferry trip to Calais and just 20 countries to cross and after around 11,000 miles that should see you into OZ.
Crossing the South China Sea could be your only big problem and I would advise rather than heading towards China you pedal south through Malaysia to the port of Singapore. At the docks there are several car transporters that commute regularly to Darwin and you could work your passage on one of those. If you don’t have a driving licence then no problem because you can sign on as a ‘security look-out’ and work night shifts patrolling the decks watching out for pirates…..seriously…oh yes mate!
Or…..???….take a bus?……..why not…??? 😉

Mmmmm? Having been there, done that I’m far from convinced that is a viable option for the plain and simple reason the profit margins are far too low overall, in single figures at best. Though if your happy to lug out an old m/c and hump in a new one, connect up, do a demo and the time and effort clocking up to do that. Then have the trouble of disposing the old one and be happy at the small change after all that then fine, you can do it, and well for you! It’s not an option for most one man bands overall though many do so nonetheless and are happy with the result. After all it’s likely a BER that turns to a sale for those who dare! 😀
Work is deathly quiet though overall, not only our trade but most service trades are crawling along right now so we’re not alone. Little comfort I know but there we are, truth hurts sometimes. And the bad news is that its less than 2 months to go before our half-yearly HMRC tax bill pops through all our letterboxes. :rolls:

That’s only because he would want to stop off in China to see how much he could have some washing machines manufactured for 😆
