looks like i`ll have to get a new spider after all,
is there some sort of felt gasket that goes on the brass bush ahead of the seal? and where does this extra seal/ boot type thing go? does it slide on the shaft after youv`e put the outer bearing in and sit between the bearing and the pulley wheel?

Not cheap but it’s usually a worn spider that causes the bearings to fail in the first place!

thanks for that martin. if its not needed why do they include it in the kit? what a waste. actualy after thinking about it there may be other machines that this kit fits that do need it.

i put some grease in the lip in each side of the housing on the drum half where the new bearings will go, is this right or do they need to go in dry? i mean do i need to get rid of all this grease before installing them. do you think the grease wil make installation easier or more difficult?

this is the first time i have attempted to change a washer drum bearing and before joining this forum i had absolutely no idea how to go about doing so. i have changed a few car wheel bearings but that was years ago. as for the time i`ve just received the parts . from past experience of this sort of stuff i have found that its not a good idea to just go steaming in. hence the large amount of time and questions .
