i have met some ladies who were definitely gits 🙁
we`ve already bought a new machine but i thought if i could sort this one out it would good as a backup if in the future the other one develops faults. i think one the things thats slowing me down is thought of putting it all back together 🙂
you`ve got to have a laugh some times or you`d go off your rocker! 🙂

this should give you a laugh-
i made a doins to press the new bearings in with a threaded bar, 2 square pieces of wood and a few washers and nuts.
it worked great for the outer bearing but the inner bearing goes in further to leave a space for the seal so i used the old inner bearing in between the press and the new bearing, that worked great to untill i unscrewed everything and realised it had pressed the old bearing into the space where the seal should go. i tried everything to get it out but ended up having to knock the new bearing out from the other side to push the old one out. result– i have had to order another bearing kit!
more money, more time and on top of all that i`ve got to put it all back together at some point in the distant future. 🙁

Oh, darn your luck eh? Brilliant idea, wrong application, still never mind eh? When you get the new bearing kit just use your “threaded bar, 2 square pieces of wood and a few washers and nuts” without the old bearing though. It will go in place just the same, no problem….BEST OF LUCK NEXT TIME! 😀

A good tip for fitting bearings is to put the new bearings in the freezer overnight, get them out just as you need to refit them, that usually makes them slide in a little easier.

    Hi stryder,

Oh dear, what bad luck 🙁

Do as jim says and put them in the freezer (the bearings i mean 😉 ).

    Often heard that’s a good tip 😀

    Better Luck next time

unfortunately i`ll have to put something in between the block and the new bearing as this inner bearing goes in below the edge of the housing on the tub so as your pressing them in you can only get them in so far because the wood square hits the bearing housing receiver thing. i` ve to got push the bearing all the way to the inner lip on the housing as the seal needs to be put in after it. only thing is what to use. i think i might make a ring out of polymorph plastic the same diameter as the bearing. it should not be a problem getting that back out as it goes soft again when you apply heat to it but when its cool it really tough. i used this on the inner faces of the wood that make contact with bearings when you tighten it up and it hardly even makes a mark on it. i wish i`d have thought of that first instead of using the old bearing. :taz:

I tap the new bearings in with the old bearings then finish it off with a punch on the very outer edge, but be gentle and very careful not to damage the new bearing. And this does work, done it on a Siltal and a Hotpoint WF530T, they expect you to buy a tank rear half. :rolls:

I have never frozen any bearing to get ’em in. A bit of bearing grease helps though.

i`m trying to stay with the pressing them in idea cos if i go at them with a hammer and punch i`m bound to wreck another bearing 🙂

But then you have only done two or three Oliver, some of the lads on here, myself included will have done literally hundreds of bearing changes. 😉

I don’t use the freezing trick that often, most Hotpoint WM bearing changes are done on first visit. I do however have several special bearing refitting tools which would be rather expensive to buy for a ‘one off’ job.

You should try the freezer tip stryder, it really does make a difference.

PS. Hoptoint will supply bearing kits for both the 30mm & the 35mm shaft/bearing assemblies, they do not force you to buy a drum rear half.

    Evening Jim,

I did’t buy a rear half, I only got the bearing kit. Theres no point in buyimg a rear half if you ca change the bearings, it seems such a waste.

Siltal was easy, proper bearing cross on that one. 😀

Well I shouldn’t have to do Mums Miele! 😆

    All the best.

I am well aware you did not buy a rear half, I was just correcting this bit of misinformation. 😉

When I spoke to Hotpoint they said the only way to do it “properly” is to replace the rear tub half. They didn’t like my response, needless to say it wasn’t polite. Doubt my skills will they.

    Dave supplied the bearings anyway.

It has the 35mm and has worked perfectly ever since, its for sale at the moment for £150!
