I am well aware you did not buy a rear half, I was just correcting this bit of misinformation. 😉

When I spoke to Hotpoint they said the only way to do it “properly” is to replace the rear tub half. They didn’t like my response, needless to say it wasn’t polite. Doubt my skills will they.
It’s not a case of doubting your skills – most HP engineers will replace rear of tub because for the few quid it costs HP to make a tub, it’s worth saving the bother of knocking out the rear bearings – with all the risk assessments and H&S rubbish it brings.

Indies replace bearings because the cost to us of new tubs is too high, plus the pain of storing them vs. storing a couple of bearings!

    Hi Chris,

No time for todays nanny state, its pathetic. :rolls:

You are quite right though about cost, costs the Indesit Group naff all to make a rear half but costs the poor old punter a fortune, one hell of a mark up.

They tried to sell an extended warranty. So I said do you really think I need such a thing?

Hopefully I can sell the Hotpoint quickly. Just sold the Bosch! 8)

    All the best,

    Oliver.

iv`e had a better idea, i took the old bearing and grinded a tiny amount off the outside diameter . it now just drops in so when i get the new bearings i can use this to press the new ones all the way in without any fear of it getting stuck like last time. (hopefully)

I think Martin is trying to get this thread to rival an all time epic. If you have read War & Peace then THIS should be a doddle. 😆

It is the heater locator so be sure, when you put the 2 halves back together, you ensure the heater slides through it….OK?

If it is not inserted correctly it will wiggle about and catch the inner drum, it will be obvious. 😛
