Re: DC15 Animal – Beater spins, but no suction

Very possibly! I was reading the washing machine forum as ours blocked up the pump with a 1 cent coin (we have never been to america, rented house with washing machine supplied) and 2 1p coins. I then found the vacuum cleaner forum, saw the question and didn’t realise the date!
    Sorry!

This sounds like a PCB fault to me if the brushroll motor is working but the main suction motor is not

However it could be the motor has died. Got a local vacuum cleaner shop near you?

    Re: Miele S5000 motor noise/smell

Hi. I’ve stripped and refurbished Miele S5 cylinder machines before, it’s quite easy.

I made a rebuild thread on one here – http://manchestervacs.co.uk/DysonForum/ … 787.0.html which may help.

    My guess would be:

Dirty motor fan causing the motor to run out of balance (easy fix)
Worn carbon brushes (not quite so easy as I don’t think you can get carbon brushes on their own)
    Commutor worn down (unfixable)

At least you can have a look and check yourself!

    lo guys.

Forgot to come back to here! I sorted it, the cable screwed to one of the carbon brush brackets. She purrs now! Completely stripped the motor, took the bearings apart and removed 40 odd years of dirt!
