When I was opening up my shop, I thought I would give Ebac a space in the showroom, I also offered up my services as an engineer. They ancceptem my offer on both counts. Unfortunately they have a minimum order of 6 washers. Firstly, it’s only a small shop on a Scottish Island, with only a small stockroom space. When I asked about ordering single machines for particular customers. They said that I would need to make the order up to the minimum of 6 appliances. Needless to say, I don’t stock their products.

Before you call out an engineer. Turn off and leave doors open for at least 24 hours (longer if the room is cold). Put towels in the bottom of the freezer to soak up any water. Turn it back on again and see what happens. If the compressor runs constantly but doesn’t get cold, it’s a refrigerant system issue. This is usually more costly to sort than buying a new appliance. If the compressor doesn’t start up in the first 5 minutes, or it starts but then keeps turning off, then it may be a relay or thermostat issue which may be repairable.

Re: Hotpoint Aquarius FDAL 11010 Not draining

When you say it starts up, does it drain first, then fill and then start to wash? When you came back to it after 4 hours was it still trying to rinse or had the program just stopped again? If it had just stopped then it might be worth checking the door switch is working correctly.

Remember to unplug the appliance before commencing any work on it.

    Re: Repair care

I do repair care work. They supply the parts needed for the job. If I have the parts on the van I just ask for them to be replaced by RC.
Not had any issues with them and I always get paid within 30 days. They sometimes ask me to provide a fixed labour price an I overestimate how long it will take and quote accordingly. Only ever had them refuse my rate and their customer got a replacement appliance.
Not everyone’s cup of tea but they have not done me any wrong and they have been fair with me. They even insisted I put in an invoice for a second call out charge when their customer became abusive when I had to ask for authorisation to get the work done as it was going to be expensive. I didn’t have a phone signal and they wouldn’t let me use their phone and became aggressive and demanding I was there to do a job and not fanny about getting authorisation. I left the premises and drove to a place with a signal and then returned with the news that they were to find a new engineer. RC said as I had visited the premises twice I should charge a second call out. Incidentally the manufacturer refused to send another engineer!

    Don’t forget Panasonic…

Although I do carry a thin plastic pipe cleaner for clearing the jets in the seals. I have also never had one fail in such a bad way.

If you are getting continuity through all circuits in the heater then its generally OK. Heaters tend to work or not work, there is very rarely an in between.

Re: Hotpoint Aquarius FDAL 11010 Not draining

You may not need to completely strip it down. how for through the cycle does it go? Does it switch on at all? does it drain and then fill when you start the cycle? Does it just stop when the wash should start? Is there any water in the machine when it stops? More information can help an engineer determine where you should be looking or what the issue may be.
You also need to have a minimum amount of technical and diagnostic skills yourself if you want to tackle a job on your own. Remember you are mixing water and electricity which is a lethal combination if it all goes wrong.

Re: Freezer working fridge is not

The ice you removed inside the fridge compartment will not be what is blocking the evaporator or ducts. The reason you need to leave turned off with the doors open for 24 to 48 hours is to allow the ice, that is behind the panels that you see when you open your fridge or freezer, to melt and allow air flow. This ice is obviously well insulated behind the walls of the fridge, which takes it longer to melt.

    Re: Rangemaster control knobs.

Have a search on eBay as people sell off old stock. If you know the part numbers if the knobs you require they just search for them, otherwise use phrases duch as Rangemaster control knob and that should give you plenty of options.

sounds like you may have a foreign object in the wash pump.

I had a similar one a few months ago. Turned out to be a metal badge from a pan handle.

    Re: Panasonic NA-148XS1 Washer

Difficult to say without testing the individual components. Start off by making sure there is power to the appliance by plugging something like a light into the socket and making sure that works. Then check the fuse. Further than that and you would need to have a basic level of electrical and diagnostic knowledge.

Electrofix is right, turn off, open the doors and let the whole thing defrost over 24 to 48 hours.

If it ices up again in a few months you may need to get the heater circuit looked at.

Sebo for the win. Get an X series cleaner like an X4 or X5 and you will have something that will outlast most other upright cleaners.

    Miele parts are seriously overpriced!

    Re: Do you ever wish…..

Martin, I was brought up around Yorkshire and Lincolnshire but spent a few years living in various locations around the country in big cities. I hated it and moved to Aberdeenshire to try a different pace of life. I ended up working in the oil industry and working all hours running a shore base and running my own business. 4 years ago my missus was offered a job on an island and we jumped at the chance. I have not looked back. I started my business as appliance engineer as there was a gap in the market here and things have taken off. When you are on an island you have to become a jack of all trades so I work on a country estate, fix appliances and even do mainland delivery jobs. In fact I’m off to London in a few weeks!

Saying that, as much as I like the appliance repair business I couldn’t afford to support my family and take them on holiday if I had to live off that alone.

Oh and believe me when I say there are sometimes I envy you lot in England at times. You can sit outside on a summers evening or eat outside in the garden without being pestered by midges!! ha ha
