ParticipantRe: comet
Hi Rob,
So sorry to read this, I know only too well all the crap you guys have had to put up with over the last 2/3 years, I voiced my disgust to the regional managers once too often for their liking and they got me out first chance they got(if you were wondering where I dissapeared too?).
I have nothing but respect for you all, the lack of support & respect you all had to put up with was disgusting, god knows how bad it had got over the last 16 months, I truly dread to think.
Hopefully you and the other lads will be able to find employment quickly, the only thing that could cause a delay is the state of the Country, it certainly wont be down to lack of knowledge or various DA skills.
My log-on name is a sick joke, I am sorry if it causes offence to any decent DA engineer on this site.

ParticipantGot to laugh at you ‘inde’s slating Comet, we had 2 jobs come in last week where a ‘Premier’ local inde company had been out and charged an extortionate amount to advise the customer the appliance was good for scrap, and best get a new one through them. Luckily for the customer they then came to us for a second opinion, as the appliance was only 16months old we did the full repair for free, and it was repaired from call out to part fit within a week. The second was a fridge, the ‘inde’ advised the customer it was out of gas and as the gas is highly flammable it requires specialist equipment and would cost over £200 to repair, once again as the appliance was under 18months old we did it for free, and did it on our first call out. This happens daily, all around the country, but we dont feel the need to blow our own trumpets about it. Poor service it appears isn’t just reserved for the big boys, you little ones do it too 🙂

ParticipantRe: Indesit franchise
The nightmare of the Indesit franchise still continues with me to this day, thats 5 years after giving it up, or should I say thats 5 years when the Merloni brothers though it would make better financial sense to let Hotpoint run the UK operation.
It was made very clear to all of us happy and contented franchises at the E-mit training weekend, that Hpoint didn’t want the burden of franchise’s, and they would gradually get us all back on board as company engineers.
Their methods were downright criminal, I wont go in to details as they have already been posted, but suffice to say they royally screwed us all, and if you didn’t go bankrupt you were lucky.
It still appears a honeytrap to this day, with a very nasty sting in the tail, you end up owing them, you then have no choice but to take up their kind offer to become a company engineer, then you are buggered!
Good to see you have politely told them no thanks, thank god for this site!

You were too quick for me Jim, thats why I edited again, I thought that paragraph was too obnoxious, even for me & I deserved the retort 😳CometBez
ParticipantRe: Comet In Financial Trouble?
:hmm: Alex & Kw, errr that was the intention, it was aimed at the small number of the Comet lodge that get on here, but I had a good laugh at your responses, 80’s corporate speak?? someone needs to lay off watching Wall Street! Dont try to understand us, just think out of the box
Squadman, thanks for posting constructively, We are not anywhere near perfect, and there are obvious shortcomings, you will get disillusioned people in all area’s of service, be it Manufacturers, Retail, or Independants, when they leave under unhappy circumstances they are going to rightfully slag of their previous employer, we do pick up a lot of Manuf’s & ex-Independants with tales to tell, certainly where part availibility is concerned, all of our engineers have pump & brush kits, they cover all manufacturers, so unless there has been a replenishment issue, we will always come ready for those jobs.
I am a regional trainer & we have had a busy year with all of our manufacturers, there have been a number of cascade(Alex&Kwatt, internal again) training courses, any important new product we sell has been covered, but there will always be some that bite us on the behind, nature of the beast.
We are not perfect, but we certainly aren’t the worst out there.
Admit it all, you would miss us if we weren’t there 😀

tim,
I only came across this post this evening, but it needed a reply from a slighted party, I hope I have re-ignited the debate?
All done with tongue firmly in cheek though 😉

I enjoy these!!!
Chaps, we are the 2nd, possibly nowadays the 1st biggest electrical retailer in the UK, we have the best & biggest After sales service in the UK, and are currently in the process of achieving the H&Se gold standard across every aspect or our business.
Please, only post if you can compete with this, anything else is size envy, admit it, you wish you were this big, but alas, a man & a van, & possibly a little shop, truly isnt competition to us, but you do make us laugh, please keep them coming.
Oh, by the way, we enjoy picking up the {e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} of your customers who dont believe what you tell them, only for us to show them how it should be done, thanks.

ParticipantRe: samsung training
Can you apply for S.T.E.L.S as independants? I am a regional trainer for Comet & it is much easier going on-line & doing the training.

ParticipantRe: Comet In Financial Trouble?
Hi h, I did wonder when you would go for it, well said that man!
It does make you laugh that those not in the know, can somehow enlighten those of us that are, of the impending demise.
We had a ROM meeting at 322 last week, it has put a much more positive spring into our step, with O/T coming out of our ears, store’s recruiting, HDP’s recruiting, and white/brown/grey service recruiting, it certainly does not appear to be a fiscal down-sizing going on?
But, what do we know, I am not alone in not losing too much sleep over Bestbuy, there’s a lot more I could reveal, but as you know, lets keep them guessing! 😉

The retailer has previously told PC Retail that it expects to open around 200 stores by the end of 2009, with store sizes varying between 40,000 and 60,000 sq ft.
how are they going to make people buy appliances when no one can afford to, what can they offer that everyone else cant thats the question, and i think the only way they could open that amount of stores in such a short space of time would be to buy curry,s or woolworths .
wsts, good points sir, but there is this little caveat:“The deal will bring CPW £1.1bn in cash, enough to sort out its debt problems and could leave enough in the till to buy Tiscali. Interviewed on Radio 4 this morning, chief executive Charles Dunstone did little to dismiss this possibility.
CPW has 2,400 stores in nine countries and an existing relationship with BestBuy – they run a joint venture in the US selling mobile phones.
Reports suggested the firms would leave CPW’s existing stores largely untouched – initially – but future, presumably much bigger stores, would operate under the BestBuy brand with a much broader consumer electronics range”
It does appear the 1.1billion investment went mainly on buying 50{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} of CPW & helped clear their debts, and as we read the remainder is to buy out Tiscali, nothing about significant investment in stores, delivery & more importantly for this debate, service?
Good point smartin, and on top of that their service division(as such) is the Geek Squad, who only deal in I.T problems, they have no experience of the UK market in white goods, and if & when they do, then there will be a lot of jobs going out there, all good competition once again, as stated previously, no bad thing.

They are in the same bracket as they are both doing poorly, comet is stronger than currys at the moment but like I say, bestbuy isnt far away now, its going to get alot tougher for them both.
wsts, sorry mate your information is based on what? We are definitely not in the same boat, its tough for everyone out there, independants included, some of us are in a position to weather this, bestbuy do not have the infrastructure in place to compete with us or Currys, all competition is good though, the customer is the winner, no bad thing.CometBez
ParticipantRe: Comet In Financial Trouble?
Anyone guess who I work for??!!! 😯
As has already been correctly posted, we have been making the painful, but necessary cost trimmings since March, so it does appear KESA had good foresight in the area’s of our business that needed cost adjusting.
We are in a fortunate position of being cash strong, while there have been cost saving in store’s, almagamation’s of HDP’s, and the bonus scheme has gone southbound, we still are expanding, with new store’s opening, the nationwide store refurbishment programme continuing, new RDC’s, the Everest I.T upgrade nationwide, no significant staff redundancy’s, that is just Comet, across Europe, our sister companys are also staying viable.
We are not in the same position as DSG, and we are very fortunate for that, and in no way do I wish to appear gloating, I feel for all Curry’s staff at the moment, it must be extremely worrying times, and I hope we both get through this slump in one piece.
I hope this post does not appear extremely rose tinted, there are obviously moral issue’s across the business, but we could be much worse off, I for one am grateful for that.
On a lighter note, remember the Haier days, ah how we can look back and wonder now, better off financially with them, or without, hit me!!

Not a good situation all round then chaps, but helo was right though cornwell, we are always on the loom out for good men, watch out for that trade test though, its just been re-jigged, and its good fun in places!!
I have heard down in Hants/Dorset way, that Whirlpool guys are only getting 2/3 calls a day, somedays none, and serviceforce have laid off too?
But, as per my previous posts, pessimism is a evil word, so the good news is the doom & gloom economic outlook appears to have been over-reacted too, we are going to be in a hole for a few more months, but wait till Oct/Nov, if certain economic speculators are correct we will be in a upturn by early spring, I prefer that to the next great depression we were supposed to be getting :rolls:
Hopefully we will all be better off 😉

ParticipantRe: Currys/Comet Merger?
Thank god for the City speculators, what would we all do without them, but you are right of course about the combined might of the both of us if there was any joining, but I can promise you without question it isn’t.
If there are any interested party’s sniffing around either of us, they will not want to incorporate an effectively messy merger into the equation, so to look on us both as potential buyout candidates is accurate, not together though.
I hope there is no detrimentally adverse affect if CDSL is part of the plan, there are enough problems out there as it is.
When exactly did Comet sack all their engineers sir? I have been with them for a few years now, and I can’t recall it happening, what I do know has happend over the last 20 years+, is we have picked up a lot of good independant engineers, not the other way round. Of course, I am there to be shot down in flames, be gentle with me! 😀
