And it spoils the look of my vans 😥
The guys in the DVD forums are obviously wizard at this stuff, personally I am crap at anything arty and creative like this, so I can’t really help with any design ideas, but could something along the lines of an appliance be incorporated in the logo somewhere.

ParticipantRe: Buyer’s Guide To Washers
As it’s a buyers guide, should the public be made more aware of the ‘in disguise’ appliances out there.
We all know the one’s, where a major manufacturer either owns other brand names or sells their product to be badged as another brand. As a retailer I can guarantee from my dealings that the public are generally wholly unaware of this practice.
Examples:
AEG badge = Zanussi
Hoover badge = Candy
Hotpoint badge = Ariston ??? Soon maybe ?
Bosch badge = Balayetc etc.

Hope this helps.

Richard wrote:When I did my course, two years ago, I informed them that I had not repaired a gas appliance for over 10 years but I had many years experience as a domestic appliance service technician. They found this quite acceptable.
Yes, my local college found that acceptable, eventually !
Luckily, Richard, you and I and many others here have that experience to back us up, what concerns me are the guys, like Ken’s, at 27 and only a couple of years in the industry are not accepted on these courses.
But as you rightly say, certain centres are probably more flexible in their approach to this than others.
Thanks for the pointer. 😀

Consider it done, I’ll let you know when it arrives. They didn’t give me a time scale but normally pretty good.

Thanks Bryan.
As they want around £45 for the ‘genuine’ element, I’ll encourage the customer to remove the old one, or book us to go and do it for them 😉

ParticipantRe: Kirby Spares
😳 Sorry !
http://www.kirbyownersclub.fsnet.co.uk/ukchoice.html
It’s meant for the public, so he’s ripping them off as well by supplying pattern spares at genuine prices ! Even though the parts are not described as genuine, the way they are sold would lead you to believe that to be the case.

ParticipantRe: Kirby Spares
In reply to my own post, don’t use this guy, I ordered some spares from him, a mains lead and a set of carbon brushes (special, in holders) paid the full Kirby retail price and got a Qualtex pattern lead that is poor quality and a set of carbons with no holders, the right size, but at a tenner a pair, I think not somehow.
Some people eh 😈

How about Neil Howieson’s idea a while back on the mailing list.

kwatt wrote:An utterly farcical situation!
Yes it is, and one I also had to battle with personally 2 years ago.
As I was not prepared to risk the inevitable of an engineer leaving for pastures green after I had commited myself to the costs and time involved of gas training I decided to do it myself.
If I recall, I was asked how long I had been a plumber, when was my old ACOPS due to expire, what NVQ qualifications I had in plumbing related courses. None of these was my reply.
It took me a few phone calls and a letter to convince my local college to accept me on the course.
How does the gas industry, which constantly complains of a lack of skills, think it will be able to encourage new engineers if it makes it so damn difficult to get trained in the first place. At the end of the day, if the person attending the course is not up to it, they won’t pass, simple as that. So why stop people from trying, it’s their risk as the government or anyone else won’t pay for the training, only the trainee (or their employer). Unless it’s a school leaver on an NVQ, C&G etc of course.
